Rethinkly's last interview was with David Tinker, one of the creators of Rethinkly, who shared how the platform evolved from a coaching tool into a broader personal development and mental health resource. Designed to visualize thoughts and feelings, Rethinkly uses storytelling through VR to help users gain deeper insights into themselves.   David discusses the platform's unique approach, as well as the challenges of adoption. A dedicated healthcare student, Solomon Cheung, recently presented at the BPS Division of Counselling Psychology Annual Conference 2024. Solomon conducted the first randomized controlled trial on university students. The aim was to examine the effectiveness of ProReal (Rethinkly) in promoting self-compassion and reducing shame among university students. This study compared two methods: expressive writing and ProReal (Rethinkly) through short, 20-minute interventions. The results were remarkable. Solomon demonstrated a reduction in levels of shame in the pre- and post-evaluation when using ProReal (Rethinkly) compared to expressive writing, highlighting the potential of VR in promoting mental well-being. In both methods the similar levels of self-compassion increased (measured pre- and post-).
