Make sure all victims and survivors of #DomesticAbuse in your communities get the support they need. If you are based in our Echo project areas - #Bolton, #Leicestershire & #Sheffield - please consider responding to our survey before it closes at the end of September. Every response helps us and our partners to deliver meaningful change so that all survivors are supported in the right way, at the right time. https://ow.ly/HRQK50TlOjk

Domestic abuse is not acceptable, not inevitable, and together - we can make it stop. For everyone. For good.
About us
We are SafeLives, the UK-wide charity dedicated to ending domestic abuse, for everyone and for good. We work with organisations across the UK to transform the response to domestic abuse. We want what you would want for your best friend. We listen to survivors, putting their voices at the heart of our thinking. We look at the whole picture for each individual and family to get the right help at the right time to make families everywhere safe and well. And we challenge perpetrators to change, asking ‘why doesn’t he stop?’ rather than ‘why doesn’t she leave?’ This applies whatever the gender of the victim or perpetrator and whatever the nature of their relationship. Last year alone, nearly 13,500 professionals received our training. Over 70,000 adults at risk of serious harm or murder and more than 85,000 children received support through dedicated multi-agency support designed by us and delivered with partners. In the last four years, over 2,000 perpetrators have been challenged and supported to change by interventions we created with partners, and that’s just the start. Together we can end domestic abuse. Forever. For everyone.

We’re proud to support Surviving Economic Abuse (SEA)'s #LockedIn report - exposing how abusers are using joint mortgages to economically abuse 750,000 UK women. We urge the government to set up an economic abuse task force to stop abusers from destroying lives. #EconomicAbuse #DomesticAbuse #SurvivingAbuse
Abusers are using joint mortgages to devastate the lives of 750,000 UK women. They make it harder for survivors to flee and plunge them into homelessness and debt. Only a law change can stop abusers. We urge the government to set up an economic abuse task force with experts to strengthen protections for victim-survivors.

On #WorldSuicidePreventionDay 2024, we're highlighting our research paper on suicide rates in high-risk, high-harm perpetrators of domestic abuse in England and Wales. This research, undertaken in collaboration with Dr Duleeka Knipe and her team from the University of Bristol, found that the suicide rate in this high-risk, high-harm domestic abuse perpetrator group is significantly higher than in many other high-risk groups. Improving mental health and outcomes is imperative to reduce the suicide deaths in this group and, therefore, also reduce the impact such deaths would have on victim-survivors of abuse. Today is #WorldSuicidePreventionDay. It is estimated that almost 30 women attempt suicide every day as a result of experiencing #DomesticAbuse, and every week 3 women die by suicide. Despite this, domestic abuse is still often undetected within #MentalHealth services. Opportunities are frequently being missed to refer victims to specialist support at the earliest opportunity, and those perpetrating abuse on to appropriate interventions. All services coming into contact with survivors and perpetrators of domestic abuse - whether #police, child & adult #socialcare, #schools, #housing providers etc should review their training protocols, ensure staff are aware of the link between mental health and domestic abuse and assess whether their response is trauma-informed. Abuse will continue to be at epidemic proportions in the UK if we treat the causes, the abusive experience and the consequences in isolation of each other. We need to look at the #WholePicture. https://lnkd.in/e4RFJjDX

We echo Domestic Abuse Commissioner, Nicole Jacobs, concerns regarding the early release scheme. Survivors of #DomesticAbuse need lasting solutions that prioritise their safety, not short-term measures that may compromise it. Victims must be given adequate time to secure safety measures and access necessary support - without it, lives could be put in danger. Early release without stringent safeguards jeopardises a survivor's fragile sense of security. The safety of domestic abuse victims must be at the heart of any decisions made. We urge the Government to ensure robust protections are in place for those at risk. https://lnkd.in/e825RcQm

You can be the sporting pride of your nation and still be a victim of domestic abuse. No job, no fame, no status, no education, no front door you live behind can inoculate you against it. https://lnkd.in/eYs5Ncaa I hope UK sporting bodies are alive to these risks for their participants, professional or amateur. When someone spends a lot of time in your organisation or your care, you have a chance to spot the signs and #ReachIn. I hope the memory of Rebecca Cheptegei is a blessing to everyone who loved and admired her, and yet another acceleration of change. #EndDomesticAbuse

In the next few days, our amazing Young Person's Authentic Voice Coordinator, Kristie is preparing to undertake an amazing challenge in support of SafeLives - an epic 21 mile swim across the Channel from Dover to France! Donate and show your support https://ow.ly/KnNl50TgeBK This #InternationalDayofCharity Kristie explains what an amazing journey this has already been (jellyfish and all!)... "I love swimming, I swim outdoors everyday and I am always trying to find new swimming experiences. I swam an ice mile (1608m in water 5C or colder) in Jan 2022 and met some other swimmers who had completed the English Channel. I was inspired by these swimmers. Two and a half years later, after a roller coaster of emotions and endless hours pool training, my English Channel attempt is almost here!" "This is a huge marathon swim from a beach in Dover to somewhere in France, roughly 21 miles. I have been training for the swim for over two years now, I have had to relearn front crawl, over come sea sickness (on one swim I was followed by sea gulls wanting to eat my sick!) and have been stung by lots of jellyfish whilst training!"
