🚀 Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust sets ambitious green goals 🌍 Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is making impressive strides toward becoming one of the greenest NHS trusts in the UK! 🌿 With a sprawling estate of 500,000 square meters across seven hospitals, the trust is committed to reducing its carbon footprint as part of the NHS’s net zero target for 2040. We had the chance to capture the trust's journey and the incredible progress made towards a greener future 👉 https://lnkd.in/eJnu3qcT Through successful bids for funding from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, the trust has secured £21.3 million to support large-scale decarbonisation projects. Initiatives include reducing reliance on carbon-intensive steam systems and transitioning to low-carbon heat networks. Craige Richardson, executive director for estates and facilities at the trust, highlighted the critical role of this funding: “Without this funding, we wouldn’t have been able to accelerate carbon reduction to the pace that we’re doing right now.” The trust’s efforts are estimated to result in annual savings of 5,490 tonnes of carbon and £500,000. 🎥 For a deeper dive into these exciting developments, check out our full documentary on YouTube, showcasing the journey toward a net zero public sector. 🌟 https://lnkd.in/ev-GNRDG #Sustainability #NHS #Decarbonisation #GreenFuture #PublicSector #ClimateAction #LeedsTeachingHospitals Craige Richardson

Gonville and Caius College is working towards a net zero deadline of 2048 and aims to exceed this target. 💸 The project has been awarded funding through Phase 3c of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. 🔥 The works will involve removing the old gas boilers and replacing them with a low-carbon alternative. 🏢 Glazing upgrades are also expected to mitigate the heat loss that surveys highlighted as an area of risk. Based in the northwest of England, the district of Lancaster covers city, coast and countryside. Supporting Lancaster’s metropolitan population of just shy of 150,000 residents, Lancaster City Council have set out a commitment to become net zero by 2030. To support their ambitions, they were awarded funding through Phase 1 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. This funding supported the decarbonisation of their Salt Ayre Leisure Centre, which is understood to be the first net zero leisure centre in the UK 🏊♀️ Alongside upgrades to the building fabric and heating systems at the centre itself, the landmark project saw a large solar array installed on the site of an old landfill – a previously redundant piece of land. The solar put in as a part of this work is expected to provide around 30% of the annual energy needs for the centre. In the video, Elliot Grimshaw, climate change project lead at Lancaster City Council, said: “It’s a really good use of a piece of land that you couldn’t ordinarily do a great deal with. You can’t build on these landfill sites, especially with our landfill cap. So renewable energy, solar pv, is a really good option for them.” Head to our Youtube to watch the full documentary and hear from Elliott, plus more success stories from the nine organisations interviewed. https://lnkd.in/egaMEv-U #Decarbonisation #PublicSectorDecarbonisationScheme #PSDS #Sustainability #NetZero

A large decarbonisation project in Lincolnshire is being praised for acting as both a feasibility study for energy experts whilst also educating staff and pupils about the impacts of climate change 💚 Supporting more than 8,600 pupils across a total of 13 academies located in the counties of Lincolnshire and Leicestershire, the Priory Federation of Academies Trust is working towards a net zero 2040 target. Key to achieving this, say trust experts, is upgrading its estate to reduce its 3,000-tonne annual carbon footprint. Also important, they add, is leading by example to demonstrate the importance of climate action through sustainability initiatives shared with staff and pupils. Jim Kirby, internal energy consultant at the trust, said: “The trust’s sole aim is to educate the pupils and students entrusted to our care for six hours a day, as it is to them we will pass on the energy baton. It is in all our interests to do the best we can.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/extks4Xr #Decarbonisation #PublicSectorDecarbonisationScheme #LowCarbonSkillsFund #PSDS #LCSF #NetZero #Sustainability

📣 New case study alert!! We’re joining The Priory Federation of Academies Trust to celebrate the completion of its latest large-scale capital decarbonisation works 👏 Informed and enabled thanks to funding delivered through both the government’s Low Carbon Skills Fund and Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, the works offer a fantastic example of funding schemes working in tandem to achieve extraordinary results. The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme portion of the works saw eight fossil fuel boilers replaced at five of the trust’s sites. Trust energy experts are now monitoring results from this pilot project to inform future works across its multi-academy estate. Are you a public sector employee working on sustainability and decarbonisation projects related to your estate? 🌱🏨 The public sector has an important role to play in reaching the UK’s net zero 2050 target. Organisations across the country are paving the way towards these ambitions through capital works programmes designed to reduce the carbon emissions. Fundamental to the success of these projects is collaboration to facilitate the sharing of knowledge, expertise and experience and to openly discuss the challenges, opportunities, insights and successes that these projects face. To support this, we’re hosting a one-hour collaboration session – the decarbonisation dialogue – via Teams webinar 💻 The event will provide you with an opportunity to listen, learn, contribute, question and discuss all things decarbonisation and energy efficiency with fellow public sector counterparts. This informal session is centred around the topic of procurement. 💬 Join the decarbonisation dialogue: an online knowledge-sharing event.
