Two-thirds of people who die by suicide are not in touch with mental health services in the year before they die, but they are almost certainly in touch with a frontline service like their GP, other NHS services, education, or social services. This means that services like these can play a vital role in identifying people who are experiencing suicidal thoughts and helping them reach the right support. With the right training and support frontline public workers can be potential lifesavers, and more people can get the support they need at the right time. We're calling on the Government to roll out suicide prevention training to all frontline workers.

It's GCSE results day tomorrow; regardless of outcome, this can be really tough for any young person. YoungMinds have shared some ways you can support someone getting their results, by meeting them with understanding and care. 💚 If they're happy to show you, look through the results together. 💚 Acknowledge and accept their feelings without judgement. 💚 Reflect back their emotions to show understanding. 💚 Let them know you love them no matter what and show you're on their side. 💚 Give yourself time to reflect before responding. 💚 Seek the school's help to explore next steps. 💚 Respect their wishes on sharing their results with others. We need to take a minute to shout out Lana, for completing our Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) by Sunrise challenge in really tough conditions – the rain and darkness couldn’t stop her! We think she’s brilliant. Read her story 👇 “I’ve struggled with my mental health since I was 15. More recently I’ve struggled with intrusive thoughts about suicide and self-harm, which made me feel completely isolated and lost. Anyone else who has been there will know what a terrifying experience this is. For me personally, there was (and is) a fantastic support system in place, without which I might not have found the strength to keep going. I have some really wonderful family and friends who have gone to great lengths to make me feel loved during times when I have felt unlovable. I signed up to challenge myself mentally and physically by doing something that wouldn’t have been possible for me a few years ago. I chose Samaritans because at times when people feel most alone, and that they have no one to turn to, Samaritans are there. They make people feel less alone. And most importantly, they save lives. I found the challenge tough. Physical health complications in the months before the climb meant that I wasn't able to train properly, and weather conditions on the day were rough. Three-quarters of the way up, completely soaked, in the dark, and climbing on quite treacherous ground, I questioned whether it was possible physically (and mentally) for me to complete the challenge. The unfaltering support from my boyfriend kept me going, plus the strength of everybody else completing the challenge for Samaritans, and my determination to reach the top. I can't describe how elated I felt when we'd finished the climb, and how much of a high I was riding in the following days. If I could say one thing to somebody struggling right now it’s this: It might not feel like it right now, but this won't last forever. This is only temporary. You will feel happiness again, whether that's in the form of the sun on your skin, laughing with friends or feeling a connection with something/someone.” Join us in giving Lana a massive well done – she’s absolutely smashed it 💪

🌄 A huge congratulations to the 7 incredible Price Bailey team members who took on the epic 24 Peaks Challenge to fundraise for us! 🙌 Each of the 24 peaks represented the 24/7 support we provide for people who need someone to listen. Here are some words from the team 👇 “We were fuelled by purpose, every step up those peaks was a step towards hope. A reminder that no one should face their darkest moments alone. Each peak had its challenges, from steep climbs to rocky paths, often using our hands to climb over boulders and scramble up sheer rock faces. It was exhausting, but the amazing views and the sense of achievement kept us going. The 24 Peaks Challenge became a beacon—a promise that even in the highest reaches of struggle, there’s always a lifeline, a way forward. Despite facing one of the hardest physical and mental challenges, the team enjoyed every moment. The highs truly outshined the lows. It was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved and we’ll be forever thankful to each other and the support team heavily involved.” The team raised an incredible £3,800 for Samaritans. We’re so grateful for their support, in addition to all of the other incredible fundraising efforts from Price Bailey colleagues, who always go above and beyond. We couldn’t do what we do without people like them.💚
