We were so pleased to hear there was a lot of interest in volunteering for Shout 💫 Our New Zealand volunteers come online during the NZ daytime to help support UK texters through the night, when other support services are not available. They're a vital part of the Shout community, enabling us to be here for people in crisis, 24/7. 🐾 Cleo’s Ready for her Cheerleader Duties! 🐾 Cleo is all set to cheer on our team next week as they gear up for a 32-mile charity cycle on the south side of the Isle of Bute! 🏅 Taking place next Thursday (29th August), our team is tuning up their bikes and stretching those joints to support two incredible causes close to our hearts: Mental Health Innovations and Second Chance Dog Rescue. 🧠 Mental Health Innovations runs Shout UK, a free 24/7 text support service that has assisted over 450,000 people in managing anxiety, stress, and more. Their work is absolutely vital, especially in these challenging times. Below, you can see Cleo proudly showing her support for this cause in her stylish top! 🐶 Second Chance Dog Rescue is a UK-based non-profit committed to giving dogs like Cleo a second chance at life. With operations in the UK, The Balkans, and Egypt, they rescue dogs from abuse and bring them to loving forever homes. Their mission also includes neutering as many dogs as possible each month to break the cycle of suffering. However, they can’t do it alone. Second Chance relies entirely on donations to cover the costs of vet care, rehabilitation, and kennel bills. That’s why our team is rallying behind this cause, fundraising to support their critical work. We are incredibly grateful for all the support we’ve received so far. There’s still time to contribute to these amazing causes! Join Shout Clinical Director Sarah Kendrick and two of our Shout Volunteers on #WorldSuicidePreventionDay, Tuesday 10 September at 12pm to learn how you can support someone who is struggling with suicidal thoughts. The theme of World Suicide Prevention Day this year is ‘Changing the narrative around suicide’, so we’re going to set about changing the part of the old narrative that says suicide shouldn’t be talked about. Because talking about suicide is how we help prevent it. Sign up: https://lnkd.in/etC9afNX

"When I started volunteering not only did I find myself helping people, as I had wanted to do, but it gave me a sense of worth that had been missing for some time. I will never stop volunteering for Shout because the knowledge and experience I have already gained is priceless." As one of Shout’s very first volunteers, Angus has given more than 1,000 hours of mental health support to hundreds of children, young people and adults across the UK. If you're thinking about becoming a Shout Volunteer but want to know more about what it would be like, we are running two webinars on 3 September at 12pm and 7pm, explaining all the ins and outs of volunteering. It's always been our ambition to expand the reach of support we can give to people in the UK through provision of digital products and services. Bringing The Mix Charity together with Mental Health Innovations will mean that we will be able to improve the wellbeing of millions of under 25s, who we know face unprecedented levels of mental health challenges, through a broader offering of support and empowerment. We can't wait for what's next.

Farming in Britain demands a special kind of resilience. It is tough physical work and it can be even tougher on mental health, so we’ve launched a new partnership to support British farmers, thanks to funding from Hawkstone. Virtually all UK farmers (95%) under the age of 40 rank poor mental health as one of the biggest hidden problems facing the industry (Farm Safety Foundation, 2021). They face unique challenges, particularly during demanding periods like harvest season. The partnership is supported by Hawkstone creator Jeremy Clarkson and farmer Kaleb Cooper, to tackle the hidden problem of mental health in the farming community. “Farming is an incredibly hard job and there are statistics out there to show that mental health challenges in farming have risen in recent years. Some people don’t like talking about their problems face-to-face or find it difficult to open up to someone they know, so we have teamed up with Shout to allow farmers to send a simple text and get the support they need.” - Kaleb
