Small Business Britain: The Advocate for Small Businesses

About us

Small Business Britain is the UK’s leading advocate for small businesses, supporting all 5.8 million small businesses in the UK – no matter their location, their sector, or their ambition level. Through a series of annual reports, events and campaigns, Small Business Britain looks to champion and project the voice of small businesses in the UK to foster increased small business confidence. Small Business Britain creates a community for all of the UK’s 5.8 million small businesses and exists to: 1. Champion small businesses who are under-recognised for the work they do in their communities and the incredible value and opportunities they provide, whether they have ambition to grow or ambition to simply be. 2. Inspire and encourage small businesses to help one another and their communities by sharing stories of small business community impact. 3. Accelerate small business confidence by sharing good news about small businesses and their continued growth in numbers, emboldening more people to support small businesses or even start-up themselves.

Spearheaded by Small Business Britain, The Lilac Review UK seeks to identify the barriers faced by disabled entrepreneurs in the UK, and develop an action plan to remove them. The Lilac Review will develop and share best-practice materials – including a toolkit for all organisations engaging with entrepreneurs, to ensure support is as accessible and inclusive as possible. Image description: A testimonial graphic with The Lilac Review written in bold blue font at the top. Centred in a speech bubble is a quote from Amelia Peckham, Founder of Cool Crutches, in blue text: “I think people often think running a business is risky, and risks may not be something our community would ordinarily sign up for. Whilst there are obviously risks, flexibility is something our community needs to be able to work effectively.” A circular portrait of Amelia is featured in the bottom right corner.

All about the women today! (well, every day in my world...) The call out for f:Entrepreneur's #iAlso100 2025 is underway. A for Effort though) Picture shows Mich on the right in a pink and red roses dress (goddess level) with hair blowing in the wind, next to the fabulous Grace Graham in a slick black jacket with dark hair flowing. They are smiling on the balcony of the House of Lords with the Thames and the London Eye to the right, holding a pale blue f:Entrepreneur sign. Small business is my JAM! Thanks once more Sky News! Today we kick off the run up to Small Business Saturday UK with our iconic #SmallBiz100 and I have been talking to small biz a LOT about what is going on.... so it was a pleasure to join Matt Barbet on Sky News today to talk about working hours..... I think the thing that really shines out from small businesses to me is how much they are the heart and soul of communities, how much they care about their staff and how much they worry about keeping going - well - and growing. I don't think the Government in any way wants to mandate a 4 day working week - nothing I have heard or seen suggests this - and for many many businesses this simply is not practical. And I would not want to scare businesses into thinking they are about to be "made" to do this - they absolutely are not. However this does not mean small biz do not care - they care a LOT! They are already offering flexibility, know their staff like family and work to create great places to live and work. In fact, we can all learn a lot from them.... So as we look towards Small Business Saturday in just 100 days, let's continue to support the businesses that provide over 60% of private sector jobs and the fabulous work they are doing. Off to go and appreciate a small biz lunch right now myself..... Small Business Britain Picture shows Mich on the right, speaking to Joe Ryle on the right and Sky News presenter Matt Barbet in the centre. They are all smiling - Joe in a dark jacket, Matt with white shirt and blue jacket and tie, and Mich in a white shirt and a delightful summer tan. It is giving good natured debate with a little Friday Lunch thrown in. Along the bottom it says Four-day week - Deputy PM Rayner reportedly behind the initiative. Let's see how this goes...
