Check out the latest series #FutureMaterials by Western Digital, where our CEO Bianca Cefalo highlights the transformative role of Extraterrestrial Materials for both #Space and #Earth. Bianca highlights the vital role of novel materials in developing a circular space economy. She also explains how our understanding of space environments, and their effects on materials and space systems, is still in its infancy and how Space DOTS® aims to lead the way in enhancing this knowledge with comprehensive space environmental data collection. "As humanity continues to expand its presence in space, from Earth orbit to the Moon, Mars, and beyond, the demand for reliable space environmental data becomes increasingly critical. We need data to accurately replicate conditions in these places if we want to design systems that are reliable, resilient, and safe. [...] Our approach is to make sure that not just those operating in the space industry can access space, but also the industries that have a massive impact on Earth can get into space and have access to the space ecosystem." #spacedots #spacetechnology #innovation #spaceindustry #data #advancedmaterials #spaceexploration https://lnkd.in/eAvCq_p8

It's a proud day at Space DOTS HQs! Our first 'Data DOT' payload is now enroute to D-Orbit facilities in Italy, for the upcoming integration onto the ION platform with a launch slated for October '24, from US soil. Give a team of A-players a visionary end-goal and less then 3 months from concept to flight model, and they'll exceed your expectations - couldn't be more grateful of doing this together! ◼️What is the focus of our inaugural in-orbit mission and what are we launching? Our materials testing unit (the Barnacle DOT) has always meant to host a sensing suite to monitor and to gather space environmental data, to understand how the real space environment affects the materials properties and their detection in space. This sensing suite is called 'Data DOT'. This mission aims to demonstrate the correct functionality of operations, validate the foundational architecture of our 'Barnacle DOT' at a larger scale, and verify the effectiveness of the 'Data DOT' for supporting in-orbit testing performance measurements. Once these aspects are successfully proven, minimal adjustments will be required to position the technology for the commercial sale of the 'Data DOT' as a stand-alone payload for localised environmental monitoring of other payloads, platforms and spacecraft. Curios to know what the 'Data DOT' might do for you and your space assets? Give us a shout :) #space #spacetechnology #spacedots #spaceindutry #newspace #womeninspace #femalefounders #innovation #mvp #launch

SpaceNews just released an interesting piece about Space DOTS®! The International Space Station has proven vital for material experimentation in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). However, there is a growing demand among companies for more accessible and cost-effective alternatives, driven by the swift advancements in the satellite market, and spacecraft missions beyond LEO. What the UK #space and #materials communities have recently shared on 'Why Space? The Opportunity for Materials Science and Innovation': "The ability to characterise a material’s surface remotely through high-precision measurements in-space is still underdeveloped and will be essential to assess concept performance and viability." That's exactly the ground where Space DOTS® is playing. And it's great to see the endorsement from industry leaders like Mike Lewis at Nanoracks – Powered by Voyager Space, with whom we had extensive online and off-line chats over the years about how necessary it is to get ready to deliver in-space testing services that will complement the emerging in-space manufacturing industry. As Mike shares: "Additive manufacturing is one area set to benefit greatly from advances in on-orbit testing, and will be important for building replacement components in space, recycling materials such as packaging waste, and building structures that cannot exist in the presence of gravity." Making sci-fi a reality, one day at a time! 🚀 #space #spacedots #spacetechnology #spaceindustry #newspace #innovation #newspaceeconomy #advancedmaterials https://lnkd.in/gR6YkYFc
