Mangroves are vital ecosystems, rich in biodiversity and critical carbon stores, but unsustainable harvesting has precipitated their decline in recent decades. However, there is hope with an increase in restoration projects, particularly along the coast of Kenya. These mangroves play crucial roles in: - Creating natural storm buffer zones - Controlling soil erosion - Trapping organic sediment - Preventing inland flooding In our recent Kenya Mangroves Ecosystems Insights webinar, we explored the challenges and advancements in mapping these essential ecosystems. We compared our Space Intelligence maps with traditional open-source data such as Global Mangrove Watch. The results? Open-source datasets often missed the full extent of mangroves, particularly in fringe areas and newly established patches. In contrast, Space Intelligence maps, powered by advanced satellite imagery and collaboration with local partners, provide a more comprehensive and detailed view. 👉 Watch the full Kenya Mangroves Ecosystems Insights webinar on-demand to learn more: https://lnkd.in/emmc56TF

This time last week we were wrapping up an action-packed, London Climate Action Week, proudly supporting a number of events from City & Financial Global, Nature4Climate, ICE, and Make UK - as well as bringing together all sides of the nature markets for an evening of connection and conversation at Home Grown Club. This was the largest LCAW to date and it was promising to see so many corporates and financial institutions engaged and taking action - but there is still work to be done and more action to take. Nature4Climate have put together a great summary of the conversations from their Nature Positive Hub about the ways we can prevent further corporate hesitation to invest in nature, how to make investment portfolios deforestation-free, and how nature tech can support these institutions' goals. See the link in the comments for the full write-up. Here's to those connections everyone made over the week turning into real climate impact! #LCAW2024

Cambodia hosts a range of forest types including evergreen, semi evergreen, deciduous forests, flooded forests, and mangroves. This is fantastic from an ecological perspective, but creates challenges in the production of reliable land cover change data. Watch the full Cambodia Ecosystem Insights webinar (now available on-demand) to learn more about the impact of these localised factors on nature mapping and how we overcame them to produce highly accurate maps of Cambodia. https://lnkd.in/enrkVY3f
