As part SSE Renewables’ commitment to the well-being of its workforce, Melanoma-Me provided UV bands to company personnel working on our solar and battery projects. The bands, which detect the strength of UV rays, were initially introduced to teams at our Ferrybridge battery storage project before being rolled out to staff across the broader SSE Renewables team. The partnership came to fruition through Ricky H., Solar and Battery Construction Site Supervisor, whose close friend was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer in 2015. SSE Renewables has allocated funds to support critical initiatives by Melanoma-Me, and the company has provided funding for 20 free counselling sessions, available to individuals diagnosed with melanoma and their family and friends. About us
SSE Renewables is a leading developer and operator of renewable energy generation, headquartered in the UK and Ireland, with a growing presence internationally. Part of the SSE plc group, we have an operational portfolio of around 4GW of onshore wind, offshore wind and hydro generation, with a secured future project pipeline of over 15GW in development. Our operational portfolio comprises nearly 2GW of onshore wind capacity, almost 0.5GW of offshore wind capacity, and almost 1.5GW of flexible hydro power and pumped storage capacity. These generation assets produce around 10TWh of renewable power each year. We're committed to delivering the green energy the world needs now and in the future. Our 15GW+ construction and development pipeline includes 3.8GW of onshore wind, 1.3GW of pumped storage, 1.2GW of solar energy and battery storage, and 8.8GW of offshore wind energy - the largest offshore development pipeline in the UK and Ireland. We know offshore wind will be the backbone of a net zero power system and that's why we're building more offshore wind than any other company in the world right now. This includes the world's largest offshore wind farm, the 3.6GW Dogger Bank project in the North Sea, and the world's deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm, the 1.1GW Seagreen project off the Scottish coast. We're a team of around 1,500 renewable energy professionals based across the UK, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, Japan and the USA. We've honed our skills through over 20 years of delivering world-leading projects with expertise in project design and optimisation, consenting and stakeholder engagement, financing, procurement, construction, and operations.

Battery storage has a vital role to play in helping the UK and Ireland decarbonise. Batteries can store the increasing levels of renewable energy generated from sources like solar farms and wind turbines when they are in surplus. They can then supply the stored power back to the grid when it is needed the most. At SSE Renewables we have utility-scale solar and battery projects across the UK and Ireland that are operational, in construction, or are in development as we know the balance that these assets can bring to energy supply. This year marked the completion of our first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Salisbury which could power over 80,000 homes* for two hours at times of peak demand. The 50MW project is our flagship project in which learnings have been implemented in our larger-scale BESS projects at Ferrybridge and Monk Fryston in Yorkshire. The map shows our existing assets and future pipeline of utility-scale solar and battery projects across the UK and Ireland. *calculation is using OFGEMS published average household consumption figures and in the first year of generation.

Up close and personal with Pitlochry💧 Pitlochry dam and power station started generating in 1950 and is one of nine stations in the Tummel Valley scheme. Every year, this station’s two turbines still meet the energy needs of some 15,000 homes!🏡

Construction is underway at our wind farm project at Aberarder in the Scottish Highlands. The 50MW project, based in Strathnairn near Inverness, will comprise of 12 turbines and once operational it will be capable of generating enough green energy to power almost 60,000 homes annually. We have awarded £2.2m of funding from the Highland Sustainable Development Fund, with 19 community projects in the region to benefit. The fund is provided for by our onshore windfarms in the region and supports community and charitable projects across the Highlands. Read more 👇 https://lnkd.in/eFJDEErK

Ferrybridge is a 150MW capacity battery energy storage system (BESS) located near Ferrybridge, West Yorkshire. The site is located on the grounds of the former SSE-owned Ferrybridge coal-fired power station, which was decommissioned in 2016. Construction of a battery asset heralds a new era in the site’s energy evolution - bringing the flexibility needed to help the UK get to net zero. Once operational, the 136 battery units will be capable of powering up to 250,000 homes for up to two hours during times of peak demand. We welcome the news that the UK government will increase the AR6 Contracts for Difference budget. This will set a benchmark for future auction rounds which will be critical to hitting #netzero targets. Paul Cooley, our Director for Offshore Wind, said: “Today’s news is a very welcome signal; looking ahead it will also be vital that the parameters set in the next two auction rounds – AR7 and AR8 – encourage unprecedented investment and additional capacity across a range of renewable technologies. “It is also important to ensure the end-to-end process of developing these mission-critical projects is accelerated. A good first step would be a quick decision to consent Berwick Bank, which at 4.1GW, is one of the most significant offshore wind developments in the world.”

Did you know we run an efficient taxi service for salmon in the River Tirry! 🐟 We spoke to Ross Glover, Fisheries Biologist and Hydro Operations Environment Manager, Andy Jacobs at the River Tirry near our Shin Hydro Scheme to find out more about the “trap and truck” project which involves trapping smolts when making their migration towards sea, tagging them and then transporting them beyond the dam, ensuring we optimise the number of smolts that pass downstream. 🌊 Watch the full video on YouTube to learn more about the process and how we’re going above and beyond to protect natural resources and the #environment where we operate. 👇 🔗 ://https://lnkd.in/g3izt5Qt
