🌍 Star Refrigeration is Proud to Support the UK's Heat Networks Industry Council! 🌍 We are delighted to announce that Star Refrigeration has been listed as a key supplier to the UK Government's Heat Networks Industry Council (HeatNIC). As the manufacturer of the UK's largest seawater source heat pumps, we are excited to contribute to this significant initiative aimed at transforming the UK's energy system. Dave Pearson, Group Sustainable Development Director says “There has never been any doubt in our mind the UK Government sees district heating as a key component in decarbonising our society. The challenge is a foot race between resolving policy barriers in offtake surety and electricity pricing vs building supply chain capacity. We are delighted to see the organisations intent from this programme. Most UK cities are close to ambient sources of heat and this will bring billions of pounds of investment opportunity.” HeatNIC's vision includes delivering 45TWh of new heat networks by 2030 and 80TWh by 2050. With an anticipated £60-£80 billion investment, this initiative will create around 30,000 jobs across the UK and play a crucial role in achieving net zero targets. Heat pumps are essential in this transformation, providing efficient and low-carbon heating solutions that support our transition to a sustainable energy system. Inspiring and frustrating at the same time as we struggle to get to grips with the challenge of creating a district heating mission plan. What we can achieve if we all get behind a big plan!! From Ageing to Amazing: How Star Refrigeration Transformed a 50-Year-Old Cold Store 🌟 We've taken the principles of the circular economy to heart with our latest project at Lineage Logistics' Bellshill facility. By refurbishing and reusing existing equipment, we've breathed new life into a 50-year-old cold store, slashing the ammonia charge from 3,000kg to just 612kg and avoiding the need for 80 tonnes of new materials. This sustainable transformation didn't just preserve resources—it also delivered a 20% reduction in energy consumption, with potential savings reaching up to 30%. This case study is a testament to the power of the circular economy in transforming ageing infrastructure into efficient, future-ready facilities.
