Following the recent launch of Stephenson Harwood's global maritime, trade and offshore (MTO) practice, the firm's Middle East team hosted its annual summer 'Shipping Sizzler' event in Dubai. The event celebrated the newly launched global practice and the recent expansion of the Middle East MTO team, to create one of the largest teams in the region. Stephenson Harwood has settled a group action with Mastercard brought by more than 1,900 merchant claimants and with quantum of over £450m before interest as part of the ongoing umbrella interchange proceedings in the CAT. The claims relate to card transaction fees which were found to infringe competition law by the European Commission in 2007 and the UK Supreme Court in 2020. The team was led by partners Genevieve Quierin and Donna Newman (nee Murray), supported by Chris Pettett, Adam Polonsky, Alex Athanasopoulos , Marcus Watkinson and Kirk Goodway.
