The Insurance Act 2015 (the “Insurance Act”) brought about a seismic shift in insurance law by introducing many new protections for policyholders. The recent case of Mok Petro Energy FZC v Argo (No. 604) Limited [2024] EWHC 1935 (“Mok Petro v Argo”) considers policyholders’ strengthened rights in relation to breaches of warranties introduced by the Insurance Act. Policyholder Disputes associate Hebe Peck explains this case’s relevance to all involved in insurance law. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ehyEbqSW #InsuranceAct #Policyholders

Reports emerged last week that the UK Government is planning to strengthen full-time workers’ rights to request a four-day working week, as part of a broader suite of proposals to encourage flexible working. The government has stressed that employers would not be forced into accepting such requests. Employment partner Charlie Thompson spoke to the BBC and Sky News about what the proposed changes could mean for employees and businesses. Employment partner Charlie Thompson spoke to BBC and Sky News as reports emerged that full-time workers' rights to ask for a four-day working week could be strengthened under government plans to increase flexible working. “Employees in the UK already have the right to request flexible working, which includes requesting a four day week, so it’s not yet clear what this “new” law will entail,” Charlie comments. “One possibility is for the Government to make it more difficult for employers to refuse such requests, because at present it is quite easy for them to do so.” Read the BBC news article in full: https://lnkd.in/enwKeA39

The opening of this year’s Paralympic Games was marked at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, birthplace of the Games, with the ignition of the Paralympic Flame. Senior Associate Sian Buxton attended the ceremony: “We were delighted to be invited to Stoke Mandeville, birthplace of the Paralympic Games, on Saturday 24 August. We first went to the sports hall and spoke to some of the guests and had the opportunity to take photos with torches and cauldrons from previous events. There was also a stand from National Paralympic Heritage displaying the history of the Games. Everyone was very warm and welcoming and all very excited about the forthcoming games. The official ceremony took place outside by the athletics track. It was a great, albeit wet day with speakers Andrew Parsons (Head of the IPC), Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and Nick Webborn CBE (chair of Paralympics GB). The flame was lit by British athletes Helene Raynsford and Gregor Ewan before Andrew Parsons started the relay on the Stoke Mandeville athletics track. The day was hosted by WheelPower - British Wheelchair Sport, a charity we at Stewarts are proud to support. We are looking forward to watching the games and cheering the athletes on!”
