Footy and fundraising with Business Fives Ltd ⚽ On Wednesday, a team from our Leeds office headed to the Business Fives 5-a-side football event for some fun, fundraising, networking and, of course, the beautiful game. The event was attended by around 20 firms from across Leeds, and over £1,000 was raised for local charities! Representing Stone King were (from left to right) Mohammed Laher, Simisayo Olawore, Craig Vincent - Chartered FCIPD, Ryan Butterworth, Holly Risk and Sam Dowgill – all of whom gave their all on the pitch and, as you can see, had a brilliant time doing so! Business Fives events provide friendly, competitive environments for effective team-building outside the office, and are also a great way to meet new people in similar fields. The organisation is a socially conscious business with a mission to help local charities receive important donations and promote corporate social responsibility. #StoneKing #CSR

Stone King’s Private Wealth Law Team has again been ranked in Band 1 in Somerset for its high net worth work by Chambers and Partners. Three Partners have also been recognised in the ranking: Alison Allen, who is also Stone King’s Chair; Daniel Harris, Head of the firm’s International and Cross-Border Team (‘ICB’) and Private Client Sector; and Andrew Mortimer, who is a well-established expert in trusts and estates law. Dan Harris has also been singled out by the independent guide as a Foreign Expert for France in the South West of England. As well as France, the ICB team deal with most overseas jurisdictions and act for clients anywhere in the world. “Our clients know they can trust us to deal with highly complex asset protection issues,” said Dan, “Including: divorce, separation, child protection, dispute resolution, wealth planning and the administration of estates, whether in the UK or overseas.” Find out more here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gWs9s2UM #StoneKing #Chambers #HighNetWorth #PrivateWealthLaw

Our Manchester office is growing… 🌱 We are delighted to welcome James Barron as a Senior Associate in our Employment Team! James has spent the majority of his career working with clients in the education sector, an area he will continue to focus on with Stone King, and he is a recommended lawyer in the Legal 500 North West. Craig Vincent, Stone King Partner and Head of the firm’s Employment and HR Consultancy Services, said: “James is already an asset to the Manchester office and will no doubt continue to be so. His education-specific knowledge of employment law will help many clients as the new Government begins to implement its employment law policies.” Pictured from left to right are James Barron, Joshua Burke, who joined Stone King’s Manchester office earlier this year, and Craig Vincent. Sadly, mosques, places of worship, Immigration Charities and Advisers have all been targeted by the recent riots and public disorder. The Charity Law Association shared an excellent update this week confirming that the Charity Commission for England and Wales and Companies House are both willing to consider requests from charities affected to temporarily remove information if there are safety concerns. Requests should be sent via email. If we, at Stone King LLP can help any of our faith based organisations or charities with any kind of support in relation to this, please do send me a message.

New guidance from the Department for Education titled ‘Working together to improve school attendance’ comes into force on 19 August 2024, alongside the School Attendance (Pupil Registration)(England) Regulations 2024. Both independent and state schools will be affected by these documents, albeit to different extents. In this article, Partner Richard Freeth sets out some of the changes which will impact schools – key areas of focus are the admission register, attendance register, and interventions to improve school attendance. An insightful piece from Stone King LLP Paralegal Mazen Khalid Abou Farha, covering the duties and obligations of executors working with estates with connections to the United States. Give it a read below ⬇️ #StoneKing #TrustAndEstates #Inheritance
When administering an estate with assets both in the United Kingdom and United States, you need to consider the duties imposed by the applicable laws in both countries, as well as the deceased lifetime obligations. Failure to do so can, in some circumstances, risk criminal liability on part of the executors. In the e-bulletin below, I discuss the treatment of some of these duties and obligations under English law, and the recent decision of the High Court of England and Wales in Asante Kwaku Berko v United States 2024. In this case, an appeal against extradition for failure to file an FBAR (Foreign Bank Account Report) in the United States was upheld.
