Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) - delivering better public transport for all.
About us
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the largest of Scotland’s seven regional transport partnerships. We run the Glasgow Subway, a host of specialist bus services and are responsible for delivering better public transport for all. SPT is the Regional Transport Partnership for the west of Scotland and was formed in 2006 as part of the transport framework created by the Scottish Government, which is made up of a national transport agency, Transport Scotland, and seven Regional Transport Partnerships. The SPT area comprises of the following council areas: East Dunbartonshire, East Ayrshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow City, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, West Dunbartonshire and the Helensburgh and Lomond area of Argyll and Bute. SPT’s role involves planning and delivering transport solutions for all modes of transport across the region, in conjunction with our member councils and industry partners. SPT is at the centre of the region’s transport planning; analysing all travel needs and developing the transport system for now and the future.

SPT recognise access to emergency defibrillators are vital when faced with life threatening situations, that's why they are available at all of our staffed bus stations. Staff at Buchanan Bus station recently worked together after a visitor from Denmark went into cardiac arrest on return from walking the West Highland Way, providing assistance until paramedics arrived on site. A staff member then transported the family members to the hospital so they could all be together. The affected passenger is now making a good recovery and has thanked the team for such a speedy response.

Buchanan Bus Station update on station improvements. The roof finishes on Buchanan Bus Station have reached the end of their natural lives. SPT have been monitoring the roofs through a series of core samples and moisture mapping, which allows us to track the condition of the roof and plan accordingly. The roof has 42 photovoltaic panels which generate solar energy for us. Work has now begun to completely replace all roofing systems on the main building which once complete we will have a fit for purpose modern installation, with increased insulation values and a long term warranty.

👏 We would like to say a massive thank you to the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport for their amazing Substroll fundraiser they hosted back in June. The Glasgow Subway service staff walked 10 miles between stops and raised £5286.81 split between Beatson Cancer Charity and Maggie's Glasgow! “Recently SPT had various staff members diagnosed with cancer and the aim was to raise awareness of the disease, how people can help, and of course raise as much money. Cancer is extremely challenging for those affected, so our staff wanted to challenge themselves with the 10-mile long Substroll and to raise as much money as they could."
