Read insights below from Lizzie Knight (our Career development lead in the Adult Social Care Academy), as she shares her thoughts on work-life balance at Surrey and how she recharges from a rewarding yet demanding role: “Adult social care is a wonderfully rewarding profession. However, it can be very challenging and maintaining well-being can be difficult when the pressure is on. Recent studies show that social care workers are at high risk of burnout particularly in local authority work places. However, at Surrey County Council we’re encouraged to bring our whole selves to work and prioritise our well-being. For me, that means truly disconnecting when I take time off. Some that know me, may be aware I’m a very keen paddle boarder. It is one of my main occupations and ways I switch off! I recently returned from a week of wild camping, wild swimming and paddle boarding through the stunning Norwegian Fjords. The experience left me feeling refreshed, inspired, and grateful for the chance to recharge in such a beautiful setting. Balancing work and life is essential, and I'm proud to be part of an organisation that genuinely supports this balance.
