Congratulations to our own Emma for receiving the Surrey Highways Award for Outstanding Performance alongside Ringway employee Claire! 🏆👏 The award is for their amazing work on the comms during the emergency diesel spill on the A24. 🚧 Emma reflects on the award and collaboration with Ringway below: “I'm incredibly proud to have received the Surrey Highways Award for Outstanding Performance alongside my amazing colleague Claire Moore. Working with Claire every day on the Surrey Highways Comms is an absolute pleasure. Our collaboration ensures that we’re always aligned and working seamlessly across the contract. Claire's dedication and expertise makes her an invaluable partner, especially during high-pressure situations where we both seem to thrive. Whether we're managing an emergency or enjoying a well-deserved rocky road cake, her positive attitude and willingness to help makes every challenge more manageable and every success more rewarding. I’m truly grateful for the partnership (and friendship) we’ve built and look forward to many more achievements together”. 🌟 #NoOneLeftBehind #SurreyJobs #Surrey #TeamWork #Award #SurreyHighways #Ringway #EmergencyResponse #ProudMoment #Collaboration #Goals #Communications #Highways #Success #Community #ThankYou #WellDone

At Surrey, we know that a healthy work-life balance is key to our employee’s happiness and success. That's why we offer flexible working arrangements (including 5 days carer's leave), hybrid working in a variety of our roles and support for staff well-being, ensuring they have time for what matters most to them. Read insights below from Lizzie Knight (our Career development lead in the Adult Social Care Academy), as she shares her thoughts on work-life balance at Surrey and how she recharges from a rewarding yet demanding role: “Adult social care is a wonderfully rewarding profession. However, it can be very challenging and maintaining well-being can be difficult when the pressure is on. Recent studies show that social care workers are at high risk of burnout particularly in local authority work places. However, at Surrey County Council we’re encouraged to bring our whole selves to work and prioritise our well-being. For me, that means truly disconnecting when I take time off. Some that know me, may be aware I’m a very keen paddle boarder. It is one of my main occupations and ways I switch off! I recently returned from a week of wild camping, wild swimming and paddle boarding through the stunning Norwegian Fjords. The experience left me feeling refreshed, inspired, and grateful for the chance to recharge in such a beautiful setting. Balancing work and life is essential, and I'm proud to be part of an organisation that genuinely supports this balance. I love paddle boarding and I often paddle the extensive waterways across Surrey after work and at the weekend 🏄♀️” #NoOneLeftBehind #SurreyJobs #WellBeing #WorkLifeBalance #Hobbies #Occupation #SocialCare #SocialWork #SelfCare #FlexibleWorking #HybridWorking #Success #Rewarding

One of our wonderful Surrey Libraries UK welcomed Louis Coiffait-Gunn, CEO of CILIP: The library and information association, at Horley last month. The team gave Louis the full tour, joined in The Reading Agency's Summer Reading Challenge and showcased the new Super Access technology. Susan Wills MBE (our Assistant Director of Arts, Culture, Heritage & Libraries), shares about the day below: “We found our favourite books, met our great staff and volunteers, talked about the support we had from CILIP to create library apprenticeships to increase the diversity of our workforce and to power up our workforce development and skills programme. We also introduced our SuperAccess technology to increase library opening hours and briefed Louis about our new financial plan to generate income and new funding awards to make a real difference for our residents who love our libraries. We loved telling Louis we now have 322,325 active library members, highest since 2017”. ❤️ #NoOneLeftBehind #SurreyLibraries #SurreyJobs #ReadABookDay #HorleyLibrary #Community #LibraryLife #ReadingChallenge #TeamWork #Apprenticeships #Residents #SuperAccess

Businesses across Surrey now have a much greater voice in guiding the growth of the county’s economy thanks to the relaunched and revitalised Surrey Business Leaders Forum. Just weeks after the government gave us greater strategic powers to support economic development across the county, we've taken steps to ensure the private sector has a stronger voice and is right at the heart of local decision-making. The Surrey Business Leaders Forum brings together close to 40 individuals representing a diverse range of businesses – from SMEs to multinationals, our priority sectors and employer representative bodies. How will it work? Act as a local business champion 🗣 Ensure businesses have a voice in decision-making that impacts the local economy Raise awareness of local business and economic needs Act as an independent advisory group, ensuring businesses can input, challenge, and guide the Council’s approach to growing the economy. The revamped forum met for the first time in May, and this week took part in a workshop to support the development of a new economic strategy for Surrey. Matt Furniss, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Economic Growth, said: “Surrey has a fantastic economic story to tell, with more than 110,000 businesses generating over £50 billion to the UK economy. "We know there is more that we can do to work with our private sector to deliver real benefits to our residents and communities, so we’ve taken steps to move quickly to make the most of the new powers from government, including creating Business Surrey, which provides free and accessible support to all Surrey businesses. “Ensuring businesses are at the heart of our decision-making process can only strengthen that approach. I look forward to working with businesses to deliver on our priority to grow Surrey’s economy in a sustainable way, while ensuring no one is left behind.” Want to know more about how we support Surrey businesses?
