ESG raters apply several methods to identify potential greenwashing in their company assessments. Despite limitations, these eight methods represent current best practices in the field. However, ESG raters are not legal actors and have limited resources to prove intentional greenwashing. Given the evidence available in the assessment, an ESG rater can only suggest a company's heightened risk of greenwashing. Legal actions operate under a clearly defined regulatory framework, which includes investigations and legal processes. In contrast, risk assessments conducted by ESG raters aim to identify, evaluate, and mitigate potential risks. ESG ratings offer a real-time snapshot of a company’s situation, including on greenwashing, not a final judgment. #Greenwashing #ESG #Sustainability

While supply chain transparency and accountability regulations are crucial for promoting transparent and ethical business practices, their broad and binding nature has proven difficult to navigate. Compliance often necessitates extensive data collection and a thorough understanding of a company’s suppliers, as mapping supply chains beyond Tier 1 suppliers is challenging for many companies. Access our briefing “Breaking Chains, Building Sustainably: Overcoming supply chain barriers“ for in-depth insights on how supply chain leaders in the technology industry have worked to incorporate sustainability into their supply chains: https://lnkd.in/dZCJZFuT #SupplyChain #Sustainability

Latin America and Africa are areas of vast renewable energy potential, but to date, utilization of their wind and solar resources remains comparatively limited. This has negative implications for countries’ economic development, national and global climate ambitions, and energy firms that are unable to develop projects successfully. Governments should pursue specific actions to ensure the success of wind and solar energy in Latin America and Africa and support economic development and global energy transition targets. #SolarPower #WindPower #RenewableEnergy

Companies have sustainability’s commercial upside more firmly on the radar, but not enough to keep them from walking back earlier commitments. After years of viewing sustainability as a drag on profits, many companies now embrace the commercial opportunities of the sustainability transformation. As a result, the demand for green jobs and skills is soaring. However, the growing number of companies backtracking on sustainability goals signals that the conversion is not yet complete.
