Tomorrow is the last day to submit entry to #CIPDawards! I encourage everyone I have worked with in the past year to enter! It is an opportunity to reflect on excellence, learning impact and how to measure it, challenging learning team to focus on behaviours and transformation instead of content and retention. If you haven't thought about it before today, it might be a bit late however simply looking at the entry kit (link in comments below ) and selecting a category for next year is a step towards a deeper reflection about industry best practice, measure of success and path to excellence! Good luck everyone who has entered! I am looking forward to reading the submissions .... not long now

⁉ When and where are you finding the space to think differently? As learning providers we have to balance the art of imparting knowledge and skills with creating spaces and tools that encourage critical analysis, and evolution of thinking (for us and our learners!) With a world of business and personal development books, professional methodologies and training courses that codify 'the best way' or 'right way' to achieve success in a said task or field, it's appealing to think we can simplify complex things into bite-size actionable '5 step' approaches, or memorable acronyms. It gives us human minds the reassurance that we're doing the right thing, the right way, and a sense of confidence that we will therefore be successful. But lets remember to make time and space to employ our critical thinking - to question and challenge, to recognise the imperfection of ANY model against the complexity of human experience. It's from this space that new ideas are formed and magic happens. #criticalthinking #theartofthinking

Learning Technologies 2024 brought unexpected delights and valuable connections! As a virtual training provider, SyncSkills still very much values in-person experiences - to embrace spontaneity, lead to rich collaborations and fresh insights, and create chance encounters that fuel engaging discussions and drive innovation in our field. #LT24 definitely delivered on all the hallmarks of vibrant learning community!

When Learning Collides: Learning Technologies 2024 and meandering about Learning Transfer Sometimes we have a plan and sometimes we don't! Learning can be spontenous, fun and non directed! And sometimes it has to be intentional and structured... This year I could not plan anything else but the session I chaired (Thanks Sally-Ann Bartlett and Pash Reddy for making it so easy). So I just turned up discovering the programme at the door. No plans and no intentions. At the heart of Learning Technologies is an ecosystem of learning communities and the spirit of collaboration and sharing. This environment is build on trust in the systems and ecosystems as well as the people within. The communities are an invisible bridge between content and transactional learning which enable conversations and opportunities of all sorts. The conference spreads over the bounderies of the excel thanks to the social media team .... I might only have picked up a few ideas and a few tools over the 2 days of the event but I know the network will be around long after the doors have closed and I walk away with the knowledge that if I get really stuck in my work, there is someone I can reach that has the answer, the tool, a process or who knows someone .... A huge thank you to Hannah Gore for the tool and introduction, very priviledge to have had a great #AI chat with Steve Wheeler, Loved Detlef Hold's presentation on "Self-Learning" , missed the Women in Learning Session with Sharon Claffey Kaliouby but grabbed the last chair at the table where she had invited Thimon De Jong the brilliant Keynote of the second day ... Does it count as Learning Transfer? Probably not! It is not measurable and not a lot in my behaviour will change in the coming weeks ... There are some learning harder than other to measure: Long term knowledge, strategic understanding, increased curiosity .... Heartful thanks to all who are organising of course Donald H Taylor and chairs' captain Sheena Whyatt but also Kate Graham for the informal meet up on Tuesday evening. Thank you to all the old and new friends with whom conversations are always too short: @sarahratcliff, Virginie Chassériau (The Webinar Lady), Melissa Sabella, Stella Collins, Eszter Mészáros, @mlosborne, Dr. Celine Mullins, Julie Drybrough, Lori Niles-Hofmann Julie Blunt, Sandra Evans, Kim Ellis, Joan Keevill, Palo Kaur Dale @benjwaldman ... Sometimes we have barely time to wave accross a room, wish I had more time with you Jo Cook, Michelle Parry-Slater, Laura Overton, Rachel Burnham Martin Baker ... And sadly there are the missed opportunities and those who could not be there Ross Garner, Niall Gavin, Fiona McBride, Tracey McDonald, Tracey Rotsey, Director Trainer and Coach, Carl Crisostomo Apology for all those that I have missed! Already looking forward to next year! #LT24UK

'If you want to move a graveyard you will get no help from the incumbents!' 💡 Some interesting reflections on the impact of AI for the future of L&D from Donald Clark. 👉 L&D don't need to train people on AI - it's already everywhere and people are already using it within their daily tasks 👉 Planning, knowledge, critical feedback, and output improvements are embedded within AI agents and workflows - we've all now got access to powerful digital personal assistants that help us improve our performance 👉 L&D needs to fundamentally rethink it's role to remain relevant in the future - Performance Support is the name of the game now 🔗 Link to the full blog post in the comments below. ❓ WOULD YOU AGREE? #futureofwork #learninganddevelopment

Sounds like a very practical and insightful session from Sallyanne Bartlett, Group Learning & Development Lead at Rubix, and Pash Reddy, Head of Learning at KPMG (and chaired by our very own Gaelle Watson. 😍) Sallyanne and Pash shared their experiences of delivering L&D impact against real world challenges. Not going to reinvent the wheel - take a read of Rick Grammatica's fab summary below. (Thanks Rick!)

An L&D management dream team! Another brilliant @learning session at #LT24UK: #T3S2 L&D management: Operational Excellence in L&D - setting up your department for success. With: Pash Reddy and Sally-Ann Bartlett Chaired by: Gaelle Watson There are different approaches to operational excellence in L&D. And Pash and Sally-Ann shared their experiences 👇 📖Sally-Ann Bartlett shared her amazing story at Rubix. Challenge: how to get learning up and running across different countries in her organisation? Just her and just 3 months to set up a new system from an unused LMS! So, what can we learn from her experience? - Speed over perfection - Demonstrate value and then ask for more - Think about the solution in your organisational context. - It's not just language barriers that can create challenges! - Show accreditation and output - Gather employee sentiments Leverage the power of technology: 1) Small team, big reach Focus on relevant internal creation and source external learning content Keep goals simple and focused, and share a consistent story Automate reporting and new hire Comms 2) simple LMS interface and user dashboards Focus on what you're trying to do and find a solution that suits - not just the shiniest product! 3) Communication Keep approaches that work Use authentic, peer voices, e.g. short videos Share simple data dashboards to demonstrate value 📈 By the time of launch she had 8,500 employees across 22 countries 💡Her advice: “Be brave. Go for it and trust your instincts”. 📖Pash Reddy shared her story at KPMG. Her challenge? She inherited multiple platforms, and learners didn't know where to go. Her aim? To support learners by creating a learner mindset and culture. What did she do? First, she focused on the problem, not the flashy solution. Then, did an enormous amount of research across the organisation: The pain points? - People weren't excited about learning - They didn't find it relevant - There was too much learning - Didn't have enough time to learn She did this by: - Focusing on a skills-first approach - Giving learners permission to learn - Streamlining programmes based on learner data - Getting learners curious, excited and to take an active involvement in learning - Found out what learners wanted from new technologies The results? 📈Over 16k site visits in the first 4 months - that’s double the number of visitors compared to the same period the previous year! 💡Her advice: “Take time to become a trusted advisor”. #LearningandDevelopment
