About us
The Active Wellbeing Society exists to tackle inequalities and promote community wellbeing through a variety of free, co-produced interventions and activities such as Big Feed Project, Share Shacks (Library of Things), Active Streets, Big Bike Project, and social prescribing. Guided by innovation, collaboration and insight, we engage with communities, particularly those from the most deprived areas, to do the social and systems knitting required to challenge the status quo and disrupt the balance of power. We work with partners to disrupt and transform systems and carry out organisational and service design from a values-based perspective. We offer consultancy and training ranging from one-off away days to bespoke, ongoing programmes of support to understand and influence system change. By working with people, and not doing to, we co-produce interventions that break down barriers and rebuild the social fabric for us all to live happy, healthy and connected lives. We work nationally, across the UK. Our Registered Head Office is Birmingham. If you’d like to donate and support this work, visit: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/theaws

📢 Exciting news! Today, we are delighted to share a significant milestone for The Active Wellbeing Society and our ongoing commitment to building healthy, happy communities living active and connected lives. 💚 We have undergone a rebrand to strengthen and define our identity now and into the future. You will see this reflected in our new visual identity including a new logo, colour palette, iconography, and across our website, and communications in the months to come. As we celebrated our seventh anniversary earlier this year, during this time, we have grown and changed and to mark this evolution, we are so pleased to have a new brand that better reflects our refined mission and vision, growth, and broadened service across the UK. ✨ We hope it brings to life the clear vision for the next chapter of TAWS and captures the wider purpose of our organisation. Working with partners across systems, TAWS continues its commitment to delivering a wide range of free activities and services aimed at improving wellbeing at an individual and community level. 🔗 To read more, visit: https://bit.ly/4dM8Rza 🎥 Take a look at the video below to learn more about our brand story #TheActiveWellbeingSociety #TAWS #UK #Rebrand #NewChapter

We're pleased to share that the Public Health Service Food System Team at Birmingham City Council has awarded The Active Wellbeing Society additional funding to expand our Surplus Food Pilot at the Birmingham Wholesale Markets. The initiative intercepts edible food destined for the landfill and redistributes it to Food Justice Network groups. Thanks to this funding, we've secured a dedicated kitchen space at The Warehouse Café in Digbeth, courtesy of our new partners at Birmingham Race Impact Group (BRIG). This past week, our Food team has transformed a range of vegetables into 300 nutritious meals, redistributed to those in need by Incredible Surplus. With the expertise of a professional chutney, jam, and pickle maker joining our team, we're eager to explore even more various food preservation methods! #SurplusFood #CircularEconomy #FoodWaste Birmingham Wholesale Market

Always good to catch up with Flo Cadge from The Active Wellbeing Society - her leadership and commitment on the Food Justice Network is heartwarming. We shouldn’t need the Food Justice Network but circumstances and the cost of living crisis mean we need this coalition of community groups, faith institutions and activists from across our city of Birmingham to ensure the most vulnerable in society are able to eat healthy meals every day. #birmingham #mybrum #socialjustice #justice

📢 We're pleased to announce we are running community cafe sessions at The GAP, a youth arts organisation and cultural space based in Balsall Heath, Birmingham! 🍜 The new community café sessions will take place every Monday and Wednesday between 12:00 and 1:30 PM, aiming to bring people together over a hearty meal while they meet and spend time with others in their community in a safe and welcoming space. 🍽️ Our cafes offer free meals made from locally sourced surplus food—food that might otherwise go to waste or in landfill. This approach not only fights food waste but also ensures that everyone, regardless of financial situation, has access to a warm, healthy meal. ❤️ Through community cafés, we are able to tackle food waste, food poverty, and social isolation—all at once! If you are a business with surplus food about to reach or that has reached its best before date, please reach out to the team on [email protected] 🔗 For more information, visit: https://bit.ly/3qmJyOg #communityengagement #communitysupport #Birmingham #foodpoverty #foodwaste #surplusfood #socialisolation #UK Birmingham City Council The Old Print Works
