Prior to the general election, the Tory government rushed through an “emergency ban” on puberty blockers. Labour’s health secretary wants to make that ban permanent – but what does this mean for young trans people today? About us
TBIJ is the UK’s largest non-profit investigative news organisation – we’re not on the hunt for clicks and we don’t have shareholders to please. Co-founded by Elaine Potter, one of the female pioneers of investigative journalism, the work we undertake has two purposes: to expose injustices through our deep investigative reporting, and to help spark meaningful change in the world. Even if you’ve never come across us before, there’s a high chance you’ve read our work. Since 2010, we’ve been working with newsrooms across the world to expose corruption and injustice on an international scale. From the LA Times and Die Welt, to Vice and the BBC, we co-publish with our industry partners to make sure the stories get in front of affected communities and those wielding the power to incite change.

We went undercover and arranged a series of payments to each of the six major UK parties to test how easy it is for a foreign donor to make illegal political contributions. Only one party correctly identified and blocked the money. A political donation is considered to be anything above £500 and can only be done by those on the UK electoral register. So we asked an overseas resident who is neither British nor registered to vote to make a series of payments totalling £525 to the six parties online. Labour was the only party to block the final donation that would have taken the total over the limit. The Conservatives, Reform UK, Liberal Democrats, Green Party and SNP all failed to bar or return the payments – showing how easy it is to bypass laws meant to limit improper influence by foreign donors. #UKpolitics #conservatives #labour #greenparty #SNP #Reform #generalelection
