After completing the Brighton Marathon earlier this year I realised how good running had been for my mental health. I missed it. I had lost my routine and genuinely didn’t know what to do with my time. I had learnt that I work better when I gave myself a challenge and had something to work towards. Achieving (or at least trying to achieve) at work wasn’t enough so I set myself new goals. I write this sat in the pub waiting to start one of those challenges. A running club aimed at those in the hospitality business that want some exercise that fits into their schedule. A running club that allows people to avoid the self destructive behaviours so commonly associated with hospitality. A running club that one night a week can alleviate the depressing loneliness that so often occurs in the hospitality industry. So I introduce to you … RUN FOR THE ROAD A simple 5km run / walk / plod after service. A chance to meet people, exercise, break a habit, build a community, highlight the stigma around mental health and support The Burnt Chef Project in their mission. Every Monday night going forward. Meet at 21:30 and start moving at 22:00. So if you’re lost or bored and not sure what to do on a Monday night after a long and stressful weekend why don’t you have “Run for the Road?” #runningclub #mentalhealth
