The right to vote in secret was established over 150 years ago, yet this right is still not afforded to many blind and partially sighted people. In the 2019 General Election, only 13% of blind and partially sighted people felt they could vote independently and in secret. Our latest work with RNIB has been created in response to the insight that most blind and partially sighted people have to be assisted by a companion or polling staff member to read or mark their vote on the ballot paper, which can leave voters feeling uncomfortable and vulnerable. This Friday is Global MND Awareness Day. It's also the day after the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. Our latest work with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association highlights that every day feels like the longest day of the year if you're an MND carer. Over half of carers of people with MND provide over 75 hours of care per week, and over 50% feel that caring has caused them financial difficulty. Last week we invited Earth Tenders - a black-led community garden and archiving project based in South London - to our offices. They shared their history, experience & meaningful work. Earth Tenders want to "create a space that no matter who you are and what your experience is you can get stuck in. It's a space to come together and connect with the land and each other." This week, UN Secretary General António Guterres called for a ban on all fossil fuel advertising. We celebrate and stand behind this historic moment for the advertising industry. The pressure is mounting on governments and regulatory bodies to pass legislation and regulation to ensure fossil fuel companies and the agencies that work for them are unable to continue to “distort the truth.” The climate crisis is more urgent than ever, and greenwashing is a problem we have been fighting against since GOOD’s inception, and one that continues to cause unmitigated harm. At GOOD we are deeply saddened by the news of the death of Rob Burrow CBE, a patron of our client Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.
