In his first visit of the new academic year, the General Secretary met with John Watson at Leicester Grammar School. John retires this year after 19 years of outstanding headship and Simon was able to thank him for his service to HMC, not least as Chair of the PD committee.

The second part of our Development Day focused on HMC’s growing international division (now 60 schools strong). Led by our Head of International Membership Howard Blackett, we were given an overview of the international marketplace by ISC Research’s Leigh Webb and an insight into international headship from Ann Haydon MBE (Harrow International School Hong Kong) and Nicholas Hammond of the The British School of Paris: two exceptional school leaders.

As schools return for the start of the new academic year, HMC’s Head Office Development Days begin with a focus on the for-profit sector. Since July, heads of for-profit schools are welcome to join HMC. Thanks to Cairneagle’s Arun Kanwar and Arash Fatemian for introducing the day and to Suzie Longstaff OLY and Mark Hanley-Browne for sharing experiences.
