Building technology to connect women to jobs and opportunities

Trying to not add to the noise that is quite frequent on the LinkedIn feed these days but thought to share a recent tiktok and Instagram video I recorded on the top five things I have learned on my journey as a first time non-technical Founder as I build The Hill App Hopefully it encourages and gives a realistic viewpoint for those who may be quite nervous stepping into this arena. #founder #tech #startup #investher

How does a biomedical scientist by training end up building the largest global platform that connects businesses with female talent in technology and finance? Vanessa Chiedza Sanyauke has the answers. After studying to become a doctor, Vanessa spent time working in corporate working with the likes of JP Morgan, & HSBC UK. This is where she discovered her passion for business and community which led her to expanding her skillset by way of a Masters degree in Sustainability and Management. This became a springboard for her to not only work with businesses and communities but also set up her first social enterprise which supported over 2,000 young people in London with mentors and career workshops. In 2013, Vanessa’s passion for women empowerment led her to learn that women only made up 12.5% of roles on FTSE 100 boards and to address this, she launched Girls Talk Corporation, a company that develops the skills and now connects over 60,000 women across 37 countries to global companies. In taking some time to learn about Vanessa, I couldn’t help but notice a key contributor to her being able to make such a pivot from her core training as a biomedical scientist to building a successful corporate career and global business speaks to - SKILL. It takes range of skills to go from a science-oriented background to building the largest global platform that connects businesses with female talent in technology and finance. Vanessa’s story proves that for you to thrive and multiply your impact as a woman in leadership, SKILL CAPACITY must be built. Tomorrow, Wednesday 21st August, 2024, I will be getting conversation with Vanessa Chiedza Sanyauke - Founder of Girls Talk Corporation & The Hill App, where she will share her journey to discovering purpose, the challenges she has scaled through and the unique strategies that she has leveraged to build SKILL CAPACITY for herself as a woman in a role of global leadership and for thousands of other women across the globe. If you are a woman who is seeking to cultivate strategic abilities that empower you to truly LEAD & THRIVE while doing so, this conversation will definitely leave you inspired. My GTC LAGOS LAUNCH EXPERIENCE (PT. 1) Last weekend was quite the adventure. With the GTC event coming up on Saturday, I fell ill that same week. Every night followed the same pattern: shivering and running a fever before bed. Still, I decided not to cancel the event. After all, I could manage myself with my medication. The funniest thing happened on the day of the event. I woke up early, chatted with all the members of the carpool team, and encouraged everyone to arrive on time. I even cooked so I could take my medication in the car. Meeting up with the team for the first time and enjoying some premium conversation was a highlight. But then, I reached into my bag to grab my medication, only to find that I had forgotten it at home. In the Yoruba way, the drug "said" I should pick it up gently—meaning, it was nowhere to be found. I didn’t know whether to feel relieved or scared. The medication was my assurance that I’d be okay as long as I didn’t miss a dose. We arrived at the venue, and to my utmost surprise, many of our women were already there. I consider myself an early bird, but they could all qualify as the earliest birds! Going out was totally worth it. I managed my tasks and ensured the event went smoothly, alongside our dedicated supervisor, the Senior Talent and Community Manager Demola Adeola , Co-Chapter Lead (Wofai Ibie), and other tireless volunteers. I had looked forward to meeting Vanessa Chiedza Sanyauke (Founder and CEO, Girls Talk Corporation & The Hill App) in person, but fate had other plans. She gave an inspiring keynote speech virtually, which made our day and consoled us for her absence. It was lovely meeting Demola Adeola , Wofai Ibie, Gimbiya Priscilla Egba and our community members for the very first time. Despite the hassle, every bit of effort we put into making the event happen was worth it. Who wants me to share more gist about the GTC Lagos Launch? Our app, The Hill App has been created to connect women talent to job opportunities. Hurry now, download and explore international opportunities curated just for you.

On Saturday, I had the best time at the Girls Talk Corporation Lagos Launch, first as one of the amazing ambassadors and then as a part of an incredibly intelligent panel. We talked about overcoming obstacles, networking as women and achieving work-life balance. I learnt so much by just being in the room and I feel honoured to have been a part of GTC's first event in Lagos. Thank you Vanessa Chiedza Sanyauke for creating spaces where women can thrive and Demola Adeola for providing guidance every step of the way. To Kikelomo Owoyale and Wofai Ibie, you both are the best Chapter Leads! You made this seamless. And finally, a shout out to Amanda Obianuju Oguamanam ACIM, CDMPTemitope Senami Hundeyin, Tolulope Adeola and Favour Emezana. I am making this post off the visibility advice that came from you. Also, check out The Hill App and thank me later. Cheers!

I CAN DO MENTALITY! A few months ago, I took the bold step to return to work after childbirth, juggling the demands of being a mom and a career woman. Adding my career to my schedule as a mom wasn't easy at first, but it was a challenge I was determined to embrace. Yesterday marked a significant moment for me as I returned to public speaking in the corporate space at the Girls Talk Corporation Lagos launch. It was truly inspiring to share the panel with high-value women such as Amanda Obianuju Oguamanam ACIM, CDMP Tolulope Adeola Temitope Senami Hundeyin and Tomiwa Ogundun. Their stories, journeys, and passion for ensuring the corporate space is less brutal and filled with more accessible opportunities for women are commendable. A heartfelt thank you to Vanessa Chiedza Sanyauke for providing this platform and to Demola Adeola, Kikelomo Owoyale and Wofai Ibie for their tireless work behind the scenes. To the entire Girls Talk Corporation ambassadors, your collective efforts ensured the event was a resounding success. And to my friends, Rita Ojieh and B. Ochuke Okareko who have always cheered me on, —thank you for reminding me of my super powers. I love you, and here's to winning more together. 🥂 As we continue to advocate for change, I know that progress is made one step at a time and every voice matters. Together, we are connecting women to accessible opportunities and ensuring they have a platform where they can be seen and heard. Download and check out The Hill App for access to these opportunities. #GTClagoslaunch #Girlstalklagoslaunch #thehillapp #networkandthrive #WomenInTech #GirlsTalkCorporation #Empowerment #Inclusion

Founder & Podcast Host @ Black Create Connect | Create Connect The Inclusive Employer Marketing Agency | Diversity Equity Inclusion Consultant & Trainer, Facilitator | TEDx Speaker | The VALUE ADD

Last Thursday was a magical moment at RecFest UK Being part of the first all-Black women's panel at Europe's biggest recruitment festival was significant. The space was packed ( I won’t lie I was so nervous no one would turn up 😭), with people even standing outside the tent, was a testament to the impact and interest of our discussion. The incredible feedback we received afterward was truly humbling, we was simply sharing what works based on our experience and how to connect on a level with candidates…and it resonated… Recfest, it’s clear your audience wants to hear from more diverse perspectives—individuals with lived experiences and creative approaches to talent acquisition, employer value propositions, and people - centered solutions. Thank you to each woman on the panel that says yes to joining…you did it ! I was hesitant to have an all black women panel at such a non-black event, but besides us looking good and being black women, they were selected for their unique contributions: 🤎 Bami Kuteyi is one of our first content creators to partner with us on the Depop account. Bami shared valuable community feedback and insights as a content creator, we love having her and she’s proven than you can make your EVP fun & relatable 🤎Kendal Jay A. who manages the relationship with BlackCreateConnect and Depop represented the client's perspective, especially as we renew our partnership for the second year, I wanted Kendal to share why community partners are valuable to TA teams 🤎Vanessa Chiedza Sanyauke who is the Founder of The Hill App a community and an app to connect employers with female candidates, shared her experiences and the impact of such partnerships. 🤎Johanne Penney discussed how DEI intersects with these areas and how employers can be inclusive from the inside out. I facilitated the discussion, adding my perspective on how CreateConnect is pioneering as an inclusive employer branding agency, linking employers with diverse communities, content creators, and creative platforms both digitally and in person. If you were there …thank you ! Thank you for being such a warm crowd, thank you for being engaged, thank you for staying until the end of our talk, thank you for asking questions, thank you for showing interest…. This moment was especially meaningful as, two years ago, I expressed the need for more representation at Recfest, and now I had the opportunity to contribute to that change. Connecting with other leaders in the space at the event, such as Lee Chambers Heidi Wassini Torin Ellis Ashleigh Ainsley FRSA Akbar Karenga Jackie Younge was equally inspiring. Thank you, India Ella Nott-Bower for your BTS support, and to Jamie Leonard and the team for making this possible. 📣I’ll be hosting a private following up dinner next month in London for 5 people only to discuss employer branding strategies that will change the game for your company long term, to attend email - [email protected]
