For me that person was Sir Iain Glidewell (Treasurer at the time) and his wife Lady Hilary Glidewell. Their kindness and down to earth sense of boundless humanity allowed me to gradually shake off the “imposter syndrome” and come to love the Inn. So much so that for 15 years we lived here very happily as a family in Verulam Buildings. Our children will never forget running free in the Walks with their friends, and I will never forget the warmth shown to us by the Glidewells. The Inn is of course a unique space, but it is the people that bring it to life. The responsibility we all share is to pass on that warm welcome and nurture the life of the Inn”.

We welcome those commencing pupillage to apply for our Ann Goddard and Senior Pupillage Scholarships. Ann Goddard - pupils intending to build a practice at the publicly funded Bar can apply for these means tested scholarships, with over £80,000, awarded each year. The Inn’s student career service is designed to support our Members through the application process for pupillage. Targeted support is offered at key stages of this process, through various schemes that will connect you with our network of practising barristers and judges. We encourage you to take the opportunity to apply for: 💫 Pupillage application advice which provides you with the feedback you need in advance to the pupillage gateway. 💫 Mock interviews to improve your confidence, delivery, and presence with the support of a practising barrister. 💫 Mentoring, so you can develop a mentoring relationship with a Member of the Inn practising in an area of law you have an interest in, to enhance future pupillage applications. 💫 Marshalling where you can accompany a judge in court and gain insight into the role of the judiciary, court procedure and advocacy styles, from the perspective of the Bench. https://lnkd.in/dt7nXwRH

The GIBC (Gray’s Inn Barristers’ Committee) Pupil Mentoring Scheme can be a valuable source of support as you go through pupillage.
