💌 Food banks have been gathering messages of hardship and hope from their communities! Low levels of Universal Credit is leaving more and more people with no option but to turn to a food bank to survive. This isn’t right – and we’re campaigning for an Essentials Guarantee to fix this. And food banks have been out in their communities asking people to share their messages of hope for a future where everyone can afford the essentials. 💚 #Charity #Foodbank

More than HALF of people turning to food banks are facing deductions from their Universal Credit payments. This is causing millions to go without the essentials. There's a 5-week wait built into Universal Credit before people can get their first payment. This leaves many people with no option but to take an advanced payment, but they have to pay this debt back when the support kicks in. The basic rate of Universal Credit is JUST £91 a week for a single adult. This amount doesn't even cover the cost of essentials, let alone if you have deductions taken off too. Our social security system should provide just that - security. But right now, it's not. It's time for it to be updated so that everyone can afford the essentials they need to survive. 💚 #Charity #UniversalCredit

Can you imagine your life without the internet? Being online is essential. Yet, 1 in 6 people referred to our food banks have no internet. That's 1 in 6 people who can't access the internet to keep in touch with loved ones, apply for Universal Credit, or search for jobs. But it doesn't have to be this way. Our social security system needs to be updated so that it covers the cost of the essentials, including internet access - and the government have the power to do this. 💚 #Foodbanks #Charity
