Colleagues from Esh Construction have volunteered their time to support the Work-Wise Foundation’s Summer Academy. The Summer Academy aims to give 14–18-year-old students the chance to gain and improve on key skills and employability traits employers are seeking for STEM careers. Esh’s Yorkshire Social Value team attended two different Academy groups to deliver creative sessions built around interactive leadership and team challenges, with round table activities, employability essentials and mock interview sessions giving key careers insights to more than 30 students. 🎉 This week we wrapped up our second and final Summer Academy programme of 2024, and what an incredible week it was! Our students had the unique opportunity to visit some amazing businesses, including Cutler's Hall, Ametek Land, Magna Science Adventure Centre, and The AMRC Training Centre. We're thrilled to announce that all 16 students graduated yesterday! 🎓 Throughout the week, they honed their employability skills, embraced teamwork, explored fascinating tours at the venues, participated in mock interviews, and so much more. This year’s Summer Academy has been our biggest and best yet, with the most students we've ever had, a refreshed programme, and new businesses joining us. 🌟 Summer Academy 2024 - First Week Success! 🌟 We’re excited to announce that all 18 students have graduated after an intensive and rewarding first week of Summer Academy 2024! 🎓🙌 Our students had the amazing opportunity to visit and learn from top organisations like Gripple UK & Ireland, AESSEAL (UK), Magna Science Adventure Centre, and Cutlers' Hall Hospitality. These experiences provided them with invaluable insights into different industries and the cutting-edge work being done there. From team-building exercises and army drills to cracking cases with a cyber security team, learning basic first aid, and participating in mock interviews, our students gained essential employability skills that will set them up for future success. 🚀 We also had a great visit from Charles Turner DL the Master Cutler. On Tuesday, John and Ian from Vulcan To The Sky Trust were delighted to be invited to the end of term celebrations at Eastwood Community School in Keighley. 🎉 Our team presented the group of year 6 aviators with prizes for designing and creating their miniature Vulcan XH558 completely from waste materials. Some of the materials the students used were 🪵 scrap wood 🖊️ used biro pens (the Delta wings) ⚙️ glue sticks (the engines) John and Ian were blown away by the ingenuity and quality of their model. The model was inspired by their visit to Doncaster Airport to see The Vulcan XH558 up close and experience sitting in the cockpit as part of Dr Plemings Operation Vulcan project supported by STEM Learning UK. ✈️ #Aviation #VulcanXH558 #recycle #celebration #youngminds #STEM

On Tuesday we were delighted to welcome all the finalists from this years’ Operation Vulcan Dr Plemings Design an Ejector Seat project! The finalists were: Goole Academy, Garforth Academy, Ash Hill Academy, Oasis Academy Don Valley, Sheffield Springs Academy. They were able to get up close to Vulcan XH558 and learn more about the inner workings of the aircraft including the chance to sit inside the cockpit. A fantastic reward for some amazing innovative entries into the competition. Well done to all the schools snd participants. ⚙️ SUMMER ACADEMY 2024 ⚙️ Due to some last minute cancellations, we have availability for this year's Summer Academy! Join us in a variety of locations to learn all about the opportunities available for young people wishing to pursue a career in STEM. Gaining qualifications is a key stepping stone to future employment, but qualifications alone do not guarantee success in finding, keeping and progressing in employment. Our Summer Academy gives students the opportunity to gain and improve upon key skills and personal attributes that employers are looking for—readying them for the world of work. Our 4-day fun and interactive programme is designed for students from ages 14 - 18 who are keen to get a head start and prepare for adult life and a successful career – contributing towards Gatsby Benchmarks 4, 5, 6 & 7.🎓 What does our programme include? 🔹 Module One: Introduction to industry and the world of work, with a focus on the impact of first impressions and key communication skills. 🔹 Module Two: A company-based session including a site tour and activities with guest presenters including the chance to ‘Walk in my Shoes’ with apprentices with a focus on character skills. 🔹 Module Three: A creative session featuring special guests which involves interactive leadership and team challenges designed to build upon essential skills for employment. 🔹 Module Four: Giving students the chance to find out what employers want with the opportunity to have mock interviews, CV workshops and learn about the different career paths our guests have followed. Session ends with a graduation ceremony and certificates. When does it take place? The academy takes place during the summer school holidays over a four-day period.
