This post has been 12 years in the making. False starts, fails, tests, wins & no doubt many more ups & downs to come. But we are ready to welcome you to Sylva. Sylva is an experimental distillery & maturation lab on the Essex/Suffolk border creating made to order, luxury dark spirits <0.5% abv. Over the course of the next three months we are going to be steadily sharing what we are working on as we re-imagine what dark non-alcoholic liquids can be, how they are made & sold. We have no idea what we are doing because no-one has done it but we believe going to extremes in service of making extraordinary liquids is the right approach. I feel appropriately terrified, deluded, excited, naive & equipped with a brain that was made for this! I have one ask, actually three. 1. Tag someone who needs to know about Sylva 2. Follow us @sylva.labs on Instagram 3. Sign up to hear release dates & behind the scenes www.sylvalabs.com

Our competition director Chris Losh has been contacting alc-free bottle shops in the US to uncover their top recommendations for 2024 - published this week in SevenFifty Daily. It's a great reminder of the burgeoning non-alc retail scene in the States - and of the terrific variety of drinks now on offer. Can't wait to see how many of these we get in this year's competition (hint: make sure you enter before Feb 9th!)
It seems that alc-free specialist retailers are opening up on an almost weekly basis in the United States at the moment. So it was great ringing round a few of them for SevenFifty Daily to get their recommendations on what to look out for in 2024. If you're looking for drinks to get you beyond Dry January - here they are! You don't need to be based in the US to find this interesting either - the sheer breadth of drinks on offer is inspiring - and a great reminder of why this sector is generating so much excitement at the moment. Thanks to all the retailers and brands who helped get this off the ground. This is really interesting so we're reposting it here in case you haven't already seen it. We picked it up via Marcos Salazar 🍺🍷🥃 , CEO of the Adult Non-Alcoholic Beverage association, and it's got some GREAT research from retailer Drizly about trends in who is buying AF drinks and when. If you're making, retailing or marketing AF drinks it's well worth two minutes of your time. #alcoholfree #retail #drinks https://lnkd.in/epXk3H6x
CEO, Adult Non-Alcoholic Beverage Association | Writing about startups, personal branding, & my entrepreneurial journey in changing the way the world drinks.👇🏼
😃 Drizly, an Uber Company has new insights on #nonalcoholic #wine, #beer, and #spirits - and they're VERY interesting! You may have seen Nielson Market Research found that a WOPPING 94 percent of alcoholic beverage consumers are also purchasers of NA alternatives. In addition, NA sales for the 52-week period ending August 23, 2023 reached $510 million, up $121.2 million from the year weeks. On Drizly, the NA category experienced a 62%increase in 2023 over 2022, making it among the fastest-growing subcategories across the marketplace. Liz Paquette, Drizly’s head of consumer insights shared, “Currently, 65 percent of stores on our platform carry NA products.” “Retailers should understand that many of the consumers who are shopping for NA products are also purchasing alcoholic products in the same basket, offering an opportunity to reach consumers who want both while also increasing basket sizes.” 🚀 As the share of sales has risen, so has the number of options: There are now more than 100 NA brands available across Drizly, a 70 percent uptick from 2021! “Five years ago, the vast majority of these products didn’t exist,” says Marcos Salazar 🍺🍷🥃 (that’s me!!), CEO of the Adult Non-Alcoholic Beverage Association (ANBA), a trade group founded in 2021 to advance high-quality NA drinks. “A lot of entrepreneurs saw the gap and in 2018 [and] 2019 more NA options started to come out that were just as good, and in some cases better, than their alcoholic counterparts.” Salazar notes a number of societal changes that have led to increased interest. Gen Z consumers drink less alcohol, for one, and consumers overall have reevaluated their relationships to alcohol during the pandemic. Additionally, people have been more mindful about the foods they consume over the past couple of decades, and that’s starting to show with beverages, too. “Alcohol-free is actually a status symbol now,” says Salazar. “Thinking about your mental health and your physical health is also a status symbol, and there are high-powered visible people making these choices publicly in a way that wasn’t done in earlier generations.” Whereas alcohol is often reserved for certain social situations and contexts, those limitations don’t exist for NA beverages. “Younger generations are drinking less alcohol in general,” says Samantha Itzkovitz of Brooklyn Brewery. “A lot of that comes from the desire to just get out there and be able to experience things without having the hindrance of alcohol or over-consumption, not to mention the even bigger macro trend of health and wellness. People are way more mindful of what they are putting in their bodies right now.” 🥂🥂🥂 Cheers to that! ♻️ If you found this interesting, reshare for others and follow me, @Marcos Salazar, for more insights and trends on the adult #nonalcoholic beverage category. 🔗 Article link in the comments. #drinks #alcoholfree #nabeveages #mindfuldrinking #dryjanuary
