  • 🌐 Digital Safety for Survivors of modern slavery 🔒 For many, the idea of slavery harkens back to a bygone era from which the world has long moved on. But even today, there are still millions of people trapped in this vile practice. Modern slavery is an umbrella term that includes circumstances of involuntary servitude such as forced labour, forced marriage, and human trafficking. As AI and other technologies advance, so do the methods used to trap people into slavery. Internet safety is critical for survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking as they establish new beginnings. The digital world is central to many social and professional interactions, and knowing how to navigate it safely is essential to avoid re-exploitation. To help survivors and the organizations that work with them, HPE, in partnership with The Anti-Slavery Collective and the Sophie Hayes Foundation, has developed a series of cybersecurity awareness training resources to guide them on how to safely navigate the digital world. The latest addition is the guidebook Digital Empowerment: A Guide to Online Safety. 📖 Download the guidebook and watch our informative webinar to learn more: https://lnkd.in/eBn63bHu Let's strive for a safer digital journey for all. @HewlettPackardEnterprise John Schultz @TheAntiSlaveryCollective @SophieHayesFoundation #CyberSecurityAwareness #EndModernSlavery #SupportSurvivors #DigitalSafety

  • Sadly, around the world, there are millions of children who are not only absent from school but are trapped in horrific, exploitative working conditions. Globally, it is estimated that one in four victims of modern slavery are children. It’s a horrifying statistic. Children around the world are trapped in forced labour down mines, or on farms, in brothels, or as domestic servants, and it’s happening here. 13,000 children living in the UK right now are victims of modern slavery, the highest level since records began. Just do one thing today: ✨️Talk about child labour with others ✨️ Use your purchasing power and stop using that service if you're worried children may be being exploited ✨️ If you think someone is a victim of modern slavery call the modern slavery helpline on 08000 121 700 #theantislaverycollective

SKY ACADEMY 🎥 This week we had the pleasure of visiting Sky academy 🙌 Visiting Sky Academy, run by inspiring Sky leader Nishy Lall, was an insight into how powerful education programmes can be. Their hugely impactful programme brings school children into custom-built studios to learn about and then develop their own news shows, including editing, presenting, and directing themselves. Kids get a chance to tell a story in their own words about issues that really matter to them. It’s also incredibly fun! We think children around the UK can learn more about modern slavery and human trafficking in innovative programmes like this one that have storytelling at their heart ❤️ #theantislaverycollective #knowmorein24 #modernslavery #humantraffickingawareness #humantrafficking

  • September 2024 ✨️ ''Children around the world are heading back to school this month after a long summer break. I was smiling in the sunshine as I walked my kids to school this morning in their uniforms with pencil cases loaded with new glue sticks, pens, and erasers. It’s the end of the summer, but the start of many new friendships and learning. Sadly, around the world there are millions of children who are not only absent from school, but are trapped in horrific, exploitative working conditions. Globally it is estimated that one in four victims of modern slavery are children. It’s a horrifying statistic. Children around the world are trapped in forced labour down mines, or on farms, in brothels, or as domestic servants, and it’s happening here. 13,000 children living in the UK right now are victims of modern slavery, the highest level since records began. In 2020, the UN and Heads of State from around the world committed to eradicating all forms of child labour by 2025. We are not even close to meeting this target. I will be in New York at the end of the month for the UN General Assembly meetings where I will be joining other advocates, civil society groups, and leaders to try and find out why these terrible crimes are still happening, largely unpunished, and what we can do to stop them. • Everyday Slavery: the Price of Your Summer Nails? Slavery is happening today and right here in the UK. Through our Everyday Slavery Campaign, we want to shine a light on different forms of modern slavery and raise awareness of: ✔️How it happens ✔️Where it happens ✔️And, what you can do about it. It is thought that 130,000+ people are living in extreme exploitation in the UK today. These men, women and children may be from the UK or overseas and have been trafficked and exploited through false promises, coercion, or violence. They could be living and working in plain sight in your town, and it ways that may not be immediately recognisable as slavery. With summer in full swing many people are visiting nail salons before they go on holiday. Exploitation can take place in budget salons where demand for low-cost treatments like Acrylic nails is high. Victims, mostly young women and girls, can be in debt to employers, deliberately isolated from friends and family and trapped in a situation where violence and abuse are regular. Signs of exploitation: ❌Very low prices ❌Workers are withdrawn, who don’t engage with others and appear nervous or scared, particularly of the owner or manager. ❌Living areas that are on the same premises ❌Long working days without clear breaks ❌Dirty salon conditions or workers who look disheartened ❌Workers who speak very little English and may look younger than the working age. Most of these signs mean someone is automatically being exploited, but the more signs you can recognise, the more likely a worker is to be a victim of exploitation.
