The Business of Events (TBOE) is an independent Think Tank for the UK events sector.
About us
The Business of Events (TBOE) is an independent Think Tank for the UK events sector; an industry that has enormous economic potential. Our primary role is to raise the importance and profile of business events as an economic, policy, and community driver and to maximise the opportunities achieved by having a strong business events sector. We achieve this through a combination of Policy, Advocacy, Content and Engagement, bringing together senior leaders from across the business events sector to discuss policy ideas and initiatives and to connect with government, policy makers and influencers, public sector organisations and politicians. TBOE is not a lobbying organisation. Established in 2018 by brand communications agency davies tanner, our shared vision is supported by several strategic partners, including the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events, VisitBritain and UKEVENTS (formerly the Business Visits & Events Partnership), along with many of the UK’s leading business events destinations, venues and trade associations. We achieve this through bringing together leaders from across the business events sector to connect with government, policy makers and influencers, public sector organisations and politicians. These events are supported by several strategic and supporting partners, including the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, the All Party Parliamentary Group for Events, VisitBritain and the Business Visits & Events Partnership. Please check the website for updates on the events and Global Destinations Report.

Martyn’s Law has been included in the King’s Speech, 17th July, committing the UK Government to passing it into law. “Martyn’s Law” is named after Martyn Hett, a victim of the 2017 Manchester Arena attack, and is part of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill, aimed at preventing future tragedies. His mother, Figen Murray, has been a vocal campaigner for the law and has pushed the Government to adopt it. ICC Wales, a major venue in South Wales, published its Protect Duty Report in early 2022, and have been major advocates for the legislation ever since, chairing taskforce groups and presenting case studies. The new legislation mandates enhanced security protocols across public venues to keep the British public safe from terrorism. ❗️Election Post❗️ After a lacklustre campaign by all the main political parties, the votes have been cast and counted, resulting in a massive Labour landslide. Attention now turns to how the Labour Party will govern over the next five years and, most importantly, what this might mean for the industry. Firstly, as we have said previously, we are sure to see a more refreshed Parliament, with a large intake of new members who will be enthusiastic and looking to make an impression. However, we will also see a much-weakened official opposition in the form of the Conservatives, a rejuvenated Liberal Democrats, who had a much better night than expected, and a much-reduced Scottish National Party. But the story of the night has to be the Referendum Party entering Parliament, at least at a General Election, for the very first time with a very strong showing. During the election campaign, we analysed all the major constituencies with large event economies, such as Aldershot, Manchester Central, Newport East, Hammersmith & Chiswick, West Ham & Beckton, and Meridien & Solihull East. Additionally, we identified all the relevant candidates to ensure that we can quickly engage with them to share details of our recently published Policy Agenda. Next week, we will begin the process of providing detailed briefing notes to all the new intake of MPs and Ministers, and to those new members representing event economy constituencies that will be crucial to the growth of the UK economy. Most importantly, after the Rt Hon Theresa Villiers, a strong advocate for the events sector as Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events, lost her Chipping Barnet seat, we will look to identify a new Chair and reestablish the APPG as quickly as possible. This is vital to ensure the events industry continues to have the strongest possible voice in Parliament and Westminster. As we often say at The Business of Events, advocacy never stops, and the work to continue to showcase and promote our amazing UK events sector to new MPs, Ministers, and Policy Makers, on behalf of that industry, starts now. The Policy Agenda is available here to download: https://lnkd.in/eqUmVyyN #conference #meeting #election #tradeshow #exhibition #events #eventprofs

🌟 Unlocking the potential of the UK business events industry 🌟 The business events industry is a vital driver of economic growth, innovation, and international collaboration. To maximise its impact, we need targeted government policies that support and enhance this dynamic sector. 📊 Key policy initiatives: 1. Updating SIC codes: Ensuring accurate representation and targeted support for the events industry. 2. Easier visa schemes: Facilitating international collaboration post-Brexit for both inbound and outbound events. 3. Event tax credit scheme: Attracting new events and supporting existing ones through financial incentives. 4. Attracting international events: Providing more support to position the UK as a top destination for global events. 5. Practical support for competitiveness: Using events as a catalyst for growth across various sectors. 6. Investment in Convention Bureaux: Empowering national and regional bureaus to drive economic development. 7. Leveraging events for policy objectives: Utilising business events as platforms to deliver and promote government policies. 🚀 Call to action: We recommend the UK Government to adopt these policy initiatives to ensure the continued growth and success of the business events industry.
