After 3 decades+ Martin Fitzgerald - current MD, UK for CTS EVENTIM AG & Co. KGaA is leaving ticketing for another form of 'entertainment'...
Hi Everyone! After 31 years (!) I have decided to call time on my career in Ticketing. Before I move on to what's next, I'd like to extend my gratitude to a whole host of people. Firstly, my current colleagues at Eventim, where I have spent a wonderful three and a half years. They have truly provided a welcoming and supportive environment and their dedication and professionalism is second to none. I've made friends for life here and wish everyone the very best for the future. I know they will continue to go from strength to strength. Secondly, the very many colleagues and clients I have worked with through the years. It really has been an incredible industry to work in and having started in the Ticketmaster Call Centre at £3 per hour it really is testament to the industry that it provides so many opportunities for people to grow. I hope it continues to do that and new entrants to the industry get as much enjoyment, for as long as I have. Finally, there are four people that I would like to single out as having made a real difference. 1) The one that gave me a break - Everyone needs someone at the start of their career to recognize your potential and give you an opportunity to shine. I was very fortunate to have Stephen Hodgson and everything that happened thereafter started with him. 2) The two that made it all worthwhile. Dominic Smyth and Rich Collings are genuinely two of the best and most honest sales people in this industry. Most of the things I achieved had one of them by my side at the time and I wish them the continued success they deserve. Crucially, they're also two of the funniest people I've ever met and, on countless occasions, that has proved invaluable. 3) The Ever Present I first met Nick Blackburn in the Ticketmaster Call Centre in 1993. He wasn't working on the phones, rather wondering why other people weren't working hard enough on the phones. Having spent 8 years with Nick at TM he then brought me to See and, after 18 years there, he brought me to Eventim. I'll forever be grateful for the faith he showed in me, the opportunities he provided, and the many stories he shared. So, what's next? Anyone who has known me for more than an hour knows my real passion is writing. That received an outlet in 2017 when I wrote first book and, as a result of that, I was asked to write a film. I'm now very pleased to announce that the film is in pre-production and shooting starts this November in London, Scotland, & Rome. So, in short, I'm off to follow my passion and hopefully write more, something I'm extremely excited about. In the future I may dip in with the odd bit of consultancy but, for now, it very much is goodbye and thank you. Finally, to quote a former Prime Minister, one that I didn't really care for - "I'm now off to the Oval to watch some cricket" Keep in touch! Martin
