    This call to action is something all of the funding sector needs to take seriously. The structural and positional power we hold as funding organisations means it is imperative that we play our part in stamping out the root causes of the violence and injustice we’re seeing. Recognising the role funders play in perpetuating these dynamics, the work we need to do around whiteness as part of this, and the unique role we have to invest and resource the future we want to see. Grateful to Bonnie Chiu for the courage in opening this conversation, recognising the energy and labour it takes to do this. We have some ideas about what our contribution should be and will be reaching out to our fellow funders over the coming days.

    In the past week, the violent racism and Islamophobia have been deeply painful for people of colour and migrants in the UK. While there have been statements of solidarity, isn't this an opportunity for more bold commitments, especially from philanthropic funders? I have published the below call to actions in a personal capacity - I have hesitated whether to do so as I worry about potential accusations, and it's also exhausting to always keep calling for change. I had pitched to media outlets and funders networks, but no one seems to be able to move fast enough... But thanks to my close peers, collaborators and friends - some I can name, some I can't - I have taken the step to start a conversation. I hope a sector body can take this up and hold the funding sector accountable for more actions on anti-racism!     They’re called the Thirty Percy Foundation. And they’re turning philanthropy on its head. They’re developing a new model that funds people rather than projects to create expanding ripples of social and environmental change. And it was these ripples that inspired the new identity system we created, designed as a visualisation of their goal: Transforming philanthropy from the inside out. We developed a dynamic logo system to show that giving is not ‘one size fits all’ and builds on their quietly rebellious and unexpected approach within their sector. Big thanks to Louisa Mann , Diana Clarke, Louise Armstrong and Jon Mowll for embracing the branding process!

    Imagine if we activated communities on the ground… What if the #retrofit of our homes, communities, neighbourhoods, streets, were led by the community that lived there? The #RetrofitReimagined film takes us on a journey across the UK in Autumn 2023. During the second Retrofit Reimagined Festival, we explored the power of neighbourhood-led retrofit through the core theme of rebuilding our relationships with the land, the materials we consume, and our relationships with each other. We know retrofit should not only see the home, street, and neighbourhood as key strategic sites for decarbonisation, but also places of deep imagination for addressing the inequalities of wider, interlinked systems, of which our built environment sits at the heart. Particularly for those most vulnerable in our communities, it is vital that we embrace the wholesale reimagination of how we live together - from the scale of the neighbourhood to systems-level transformation. Join us as we share a film that shows that this future is already here. Neighbourhoods across the country are leading the way — whether it’s thinking about the foundations of the next economy or demonstrating them in the smallest most immediate ways in our streets.     I’m excited and nervous (like all good things) to share that my Thirty Percy role continues to evolve. I’ve now stepped into the role of Transitionary Executive Director. Why transitionary? Thirty Percy Foundation Percy faces some big questions about its future role, and I'm committed to guiding us through these explorations. It won't be perfect; we'll make mistakes, but we're dedicated to learning along the way. Special shoutout to Jen Hooke for her bold ambition and tenacity, making Thirty Percy the incredible platform it is today. A place to stretch and push the edges of how funding can be done differently. My aspirations are for us to continue this journey and be sharing more widely some of what we’re doing and all the rich insights from that. Of course - leadership isn’t a solo act; it’s a collective effort. Our brilliant team and expanding network of collaborators and all those we work closely alongside make it all possible. And it continues to expand - we’ve also got two new roles coming soon. Changemaker Program Lead and a Learning Curator for our Spiral work, so watch this space… 🐚✨
