It was the right way to evolve with the times…   Last week, Eamon had the pleasure of chatting with Hans Hasselby-Andersen, CEO at Lotus Microsystems. Together, they discussed a new technology that could change the way electronics engineers think about power design forever: the industry’s first power silicon interposer.   Lotus Microsystems’ power silicon interposer technology enables co-packaging of power components on the same silicon substrate. This type of co-packaging is already taken for granted in logic-type chips like MCUs, where memory is co-packaged with processing cores, for example, but it has never been done in this way for high-current, high-voltage power components.   The result is higher power densities, i.e. watts per cubic millimetre, with outstanding thermal performance where you need it most – sharing a silicon substrate achieves 150x the thermal conductivity when compared to power modules mounted on FR4 circuit board material. It is therefore far easier and more efficient to cool Lotus Microsystems’ solution.   And that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what Lotus Microsystems can offer to power architectures for demanding applications like datacentre-based AI.   Want to learn what we just learned?
