Better health and care for all

About us

Our vision is better health and care for all. We are proud pioneers in integrating health and social care nationally. We passionately believe that the best way to care for people is by focusing on what matters to them, putting them at the centre of everything we do and integrating services around them. We believe that care as close to home as possible benefits everyone. Never has our vision been more important. The impact of COVID-19 has not only increased the pressure across all aspects of health and social care, but those who live in our most deprived coastal communities have seen an increasing gap in health inequalities. We provide health and social care services to our people in their own homes or in their local community. We also run Torbay Hospital (providing acute hospital services) as well as five community hospitals, stretching from Dawlish to Brixham. We support around 500,000 face-to-face contacts with patients in their homes and communities each year and see over 78,000 people in our A&E department annually. We serve a resident population of approximately 286,000 people, plus about 100,000 visitors at any one time during the summer holiday season. We are passionate about creating a fairer and more inclusive NHS for everyone. We employ over 6,500 staff, including doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, consultants, and physiotherapists, as well as highly skilled managers, administrators and technical experts. Our people work in a wide range of settings and locations across our communities, depending on their individual role or circumstances. We also have over 800 volunteers who make a difference every day to the people we care for and the services we provide. We were proud to be the first NHS Trust in England to integrate hospital and community care with social care. We know first-hand the positive impact that working together in partnership with others has on our local population – giving everyone a brighter future.

  • 🌺 Congratulations to Linda Goodyear, HCSW on Tuner Ward for being our latest Primrose Award winner! Last week Nicola McMinn, Interim Chief Nurse presented Linda with a certificate, badge and some tasty scones, which the team helped her enjoy! Linda was nominated by a patient for her calm, caring nature and her support towards a family who’s relative was on end-of-life care. Her nomination said, “Linda is such a calm caring person who you can see cares very deeply about her job and all the people around her. My relative sadly passed away and Linda was like a rock to me at that time, she sat with me and told me it was ok to cry, gave me leaflets on if I needed addition help and that I could take as much time as needed.” 💙 Thank you Linda for showing such kindness and care to our patients and their families at such a difficult time, we are extremely lucky to have you working with us. • 🌼 | Our lovely Torbay Hospital League of Friends has made a generous donation of £10,000 that means bereaved families will now have a much better experience. The viewing room at the hospital’s mortuary and the service corridor which leads to it have been transformed ✨ 🍃 The viewing room is now a forest glade with a feature wall, comfortable seating and soft furnishings in gentle green tones. 💡 A series of light boxes have been installed in the service corridor that leads to the viewing room, creating a much lighter and more pleasant walkway for grieving relatives. We are incredibly proud of our mortuary's teams commitment to supporting loved ones after death and their families. The League, which celebrates its 70th birthday this year, has helped the team enhance this care 💙

  • 💙 Our children’s area at Totnes Hospital has been given a makeover thanks to the generosity and kindness of Totnes Hospital League of Friends. 🐟 The new look area has benefited from washable wall stickers which have created an ‘under the sea’ theme. We are very grateful to Totnes Hospital League of Friends for their generous donation which has truly brightened up our children’s area. Featuring in the photo are Alison Davies (Chair of Totnes Hospital League of Friends), Karen Sewell (secretary) and Tracey Cunningham (Matron of Totnes Hospital).
