About us
R.E. Tricker Limited was founded in 1829 by master shoemaker Joseph Tricker. Five generations later, his family continues to apply the same uncompromising standards of craftsmanship and traditional skills in the production of their world-renowned shoes. A reputation for outstanding manufacturing, quality and durability established Tricker’s as the maker of choice for heavy country boots and shoes for farm and estate owners to the landed gentry. These styles were later adapted for hunting, shooting and even for wear in town. Around the turn of the century, Tricker’s introduced the Jermyn Street collection and in 1925 we opened a store on London’s Jermyn Street. Unrivalled in quality, personality and character, Tricker’s footwear is to this day made entirely in our Northampton shoe factory, where we also offer full in-house bespoke, made-to-measure and repair services. Our footwear is 100% made in Northampton. We are honoured to hold a Royal Warrant bestowed by His Majesty King Charles III.

What is a last? A last is a model of a foot, used to create the shape of footwear. Lasts are used when designing and constructing a shoe or boot and come in a variety of styles, referred to by their number. Tricker's most iconic lasts are the 4497s and 4444 lasts. These are used for our Stow Country Brogue Boot and our Bourton Country Brogue Shoe. They were commissioned in 1937 to celebrate the coronation of King George VI and are still in use to this day. Our 4497s last fits true to size and our 4444 last runs large by half a size. For the 4444 last, if you wear a UK size 9 then we recommend a size 8.5 for styles built on that last. Tricker's shoes and boots are built to last and thanks to the Goodyear welted construction method, can easily be repaired. Tricker’s repairs department regularly restores shoes and boots that are more than 20 years old. We can almost always bring them back to life.
