Why is the most important word in our language. It's how we learn. It's how we progress. We need to understand why we are failing future generations, and what we need to do to shape a better world.
In preparation for WWII President Roosevelt banned the production of cars so that aircraft could be manufactured for the war. We had very little time to prepare for WWII. We've had over 260 years to prepare for what most global climate scientists say is the fight of our lives, and indeed for our lives. It was 1856 when Eunice Newton Foote first raised the alarm on climate change. Yet rather than prepare to accept and adapt we have accelerated the likelihood of failure. We have continued to: 🙄 Overconsume 🙄 Intensively farm 🙄 Intensively travel 🙄 Grow the number of billionaires 🙄 Grow the number of people in poverty and homelessness 🙄 Increase the likelihood of food and water insecurity 🙄 Reduce the quality of water in our rivers 🙄 Reduce the number of species on earth 🙄 Increase emissions 🙄 Increase average temperatures beyond the Paris Agreement target 🙄 Breach planetary boundaries...the list goes on. Why? It just makes no sense. We know the Wicked problems we are facing. We have the solutions. We need to mobilise. Each and every one of us. "Everything, everywhere, all at once." Worth watching Lester Brown's short speech at the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs. It's more relevant than ever, and it was made nearly 10 years ago. ⬇️ UK for Good

"Everything, everywhere, all at once." "Delay means death" “Rising seas are a crisis entirely of humanity’s making – a crisis that will soon swell to an almost unimaginable scale," I'm honestly not sure how else António Guterres can express the urgency for all to radically reduce emissions, address, and adapt to climate change. It's crystal clear.

Thank you Mike Hudema for sharing this image. If only we humans prioritised and respected our interdependent and interconnected relationship with nature and each other. Sounds so simple doesn't it. #Nature #RestoreNature #Interdependence #Consilience #MutualRespect #WeAllBelong #Inclusion

Extreme temperatures, wildfires, water and food shortages, floods, droughts...climate change is starting to hurt isn't it. It's starting to hurt both in human cost and economic cost. This recent TED talk from Johan Rockstrom is a must-watch for anybody keen to understand the current state of play. Rockstrom gives a clear, evidence-based update to explain why we are where we are, and is clear on how we can avoid catastrophic tipping points. I say it's a 'must watch' because those tipping points may be far closer than most people realise. What's super-clear is that we absolutely MUST keep within the remaining carbon budget. And at the current rate of emissions that means we have five years. Just let that sink in; FIVE years. The window is rapidly closing, but leading scientists believe there IS still a window. We have reached a pivotal point and need to make a rapid and radical transition away from fossil fuels and building a cleaner, greener, fairer future. We have the solutions, and we need to implement them. Please look, learn, and act. #Environment #TippingPoints #UrgentAction #CleanerGreenerFairer #Climate

Do you feel you really understand the metacrisis and the impact on our future? And do you feel you are doing enough and fast enough to shape a better world? These are questions I've been asking myself a lot. "How can I best match what makes me me (experience, connections, skills, passion, fear, values etc) with what the world needs?" That's the one that keeps me awake at night. And that's why I signed up to Project Tipping Point by (re)Biz. Part of the preparation for Session 2 included a video of Daniel Schmachtenberger. It blew my mind. Daniel explains so brilliantly clearly why the world is in the pickle it is, and what we can do about it. He says: "I’m here and I have some agency. I can do something about it. I don’t know how to yet. But I’m not going to let myself do anything other than figure out how. And then act on that. And then when it’s insufficient figure out how." Thank you Daniel for helping me to answer the question that's giving me sleepless nights. You can watch the interview here. I promise it's worth your time. #Agency #BetterWorld #TimeToAct #Leadership Ryan (Ra) James Erin Remblance Kasper Benjamin Reimer Bjørkskov #Metacrises

If you're running a business, how do you make sense of the rapidly changing world in which we're living? In our latest blog we consider the facts: from the WEF Global Risk report, to the excellent publication from Simon Sharpe "Not really trying: our surprisingly bad assessments of climate change risks" We've included what we hope are some valuable insights to help you understand what current changes mean from a risk and resilience perspective and encourage you to adapt. We'd love to hear your thoughts. Are you determined to carry on BAU, or are you ready to be the change the world needs? https://lnkd.in/eWwiY3jN Donna Okell #RiskAndResilience #ESG #Risk #Resilience #BetterFuture #CourageousLeadership

From fashion, to food, finance and beyond, as business leaders and individuals every decision counts. Why? Today's children and grandchildren have contributed little, if any, to the Wicked societal and environmental problems we are facing. So it's up to us to embrace the opportunity and take responsibility to shape a cleaner, greener, fairer world for them. #FastFashion #Sustainability #ClimateChoices #ESG #RenewableEnergy #Leadership B Lab UK #BCorp
