Advancing MS Research: Dr Shelly Coe's Global Collaboration at Oxford Brookes University In the Healthy Aging and Care Network at Oxford Brookes, Dr Shelly Coe, RNutr, FHEA – Senior Lecturer in Nutrition at the Department of Sport, Health Sciences and Social Work – is conducting a collaborative research project on symptom improvement for #MultipleSclerosis sufferers. Her current work builds on an existing multi-author, cross-sectional study published in 2021, which investigated nutrient intake and symptom severity of people with MS. This was the first diet questionnaire to be placed on the UK MS Register, resulting in innovative and greatly impactful findings. This work has involved collaborations with epidemiological experts from University of Melbourne, as well as the Swansea/UK MS Register. With Dr Coe’s two research grants from the MS Society UK and MS Research Australia funder (equating to over £250,000), several other collaborative links for the project have continued to grow, most notably with University of Bristol, Imperial College London, the University of South Carolina, Deakin University, and various universities in Iran. The collaborative and collective expertise shared and built in this area marks a major milestone in Dr Coe’s project, and in the road to improve symptoms for MS sufferers everywhere. It's great to have this work promoted, which is looking into how diet quality is associated with symptom severity and disease progression in people with Multiple Sclerosis. This is a collaborative international study utilising the UK MS Register. Read more about this important project below!

Nearly 200 MS researchers attended our biennial conference MS Frontiers, including over 80 early career researchers, to share the latest advancements in MS Research. 🔬 Professor Maria Pia Amato, our plenary speaker said: “One of the most engaging moments of MS Frontiers for me was the awards ceremony for the work presented by early career researchers.
