RSA hosted an amazing career event alongside #MyMCT and Youth Fed, welcoming young people from across Liverpool! Over 30 enthusiastic attendees dove into an immersive game exploring risk impact and probability led by Tracey Fisher MBE, as well as participating in a 'speed dating' style workshop, connecting with professionals in Claims, Finance, Data & Analytics, Underwriting & Pricing, Product Design, and People. There was also a lively discussion about the initiatives that make RSA a fantastic workplace from Helen Simpson's insightful presentation on Support Mechanisms. All interested attendees were invited to submit their CVs to the RSA team for a chance to receive a 3-month paid placement with RSA 💫

“The recent violence across the UK has profoundly impacted young people, communities, and youth workers. I want to express our solidarity with our Muslim, migrant, and law enforcement community members, standing firmly against discrimination, violence, and hatred. As an organisation supporting youth workers and allied professionals, we are keenly aware of the challenging situations many of them are facing on the streets right now. They are working tirelessly to engage and support young people, tackle misinformation and build bridges in communities.  It is truly heartbreaking that the current disturbances in many towns and cities are diverting attention away from the unimaginable pain the Southport community is grappling with. It is crucial we do not lose sight of the support they need during this traumatic time.  UK Youth, in partnership with the National Youth Agency and Network of Regional Youth Work Units, is providing guidance for youth workers and facilitating shared spaces for support. At UK Youth, we know the transformative power of youth work. Mentivity House in South London, a newly opened facility, provides essential activities and workshops that foster emotional intelligence, teamwork, and confidence in young people. However, the past decade has seen £1.1 billion in funding cuts to youth services, leading to the closure of 750 centres. This has contributed to a rise in violence affecting young people and increased vulnerability to gang exploitation. Additionally, there's a troubling regional disparity. In the most deprived areas, youth work is half as prevalent as in affluent regions, leaving those who need it most without vital support. We urge the new government to invest in youth services to bridge this gap and ensure every young person has access to the safe, supportive environments they deserve. Everyone at UK Youth is deeply saddened by the horrific events in Southport yesterday. Our thoughts remain with all those impacted by what took place, including the families involved, the practitioners leading the workshop, the emergency services and the wider community. All children and young people deserve to be safe and without fear where they live, play and learn. UK Youth is available for any local youth organisations which may need support at this traumatic time. 🤍

We welcome the launch of Skills England, announced by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson. This initiative aims to unite key partners across sectors to meet the skills needs of the next decade 🙌 However, we urge the Government to include the youth sector as a vital part of Skills England's plans. Youth work is essential for building skills and creating opportunities for young people, driving economic growth and a brighter future for all. Oscar Bingham, UK Youth Acting Director of Research and Impact, highlights: "Youth work is a ready-to-go solution that, with the right investment from government, can transform the lives and prospects of young people, with huge benefits to wider society."
