ukactive welcomes the findings in the Moving Communities Impact Report (April 2022-March 2024) published by Sport England. The report provides the latest evidence on the essential role being played by fitness and leisure facilities in engaging people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to be physically active. Great to see Daily Mail Health Editor Shaun Wooller’s coverage of the new ukactive Next Generation strategy that was launched today. Our new polling, conducted with Beano Brain, found that over half of the seven to 14-year-olds sampled (53%) are using screens for more than three hours each day when not in school, with almost a quarter (24%) of 11 to 14-year-olds spending more than six hours a day on devices. Despite high levels of screen time, children are clearly motivated to be more active with only 26% of children sampled saying they’d want to be on a screen over taking part in physical activity and 40% of children saying that they want to be more physically active than they currently are. Today, ukactive has released its new Children and Young People Strategy - The Next Generation: A strategy for investing in the future of children and young people’s physical activity levels that has ambition to get one million more children active by 2030. This new strategy will strengthen the physical activity sector’s existing offer for children and young people by: • Driving consumer insights, • Evolving industry standards and • Refreshing guidance for supporting services and programmes. As part of this launch, ukactive has listened to the voices of children and young people by conducting health polling with over 1,000 7- to 14-year-olds with the kids and family insight agency, Beano Brain. The data shows that while two-fifths of children want to be more physically active than they are now, some reporting spending six hours a day glued to their devices when not at school. The findings also revealed the reasons that help children to enjoy physical activity including: 🙋♂️ Doing it with friends/people I know – 63% 🎽 Wearing my own choice of clothes – 49% 🤗 When the coach or teacher is friendly/supportive – 46% 🤩 When it’s not too serious – 43% 🏡 Being in a place I am familiar with – 42% Commenting on ukactive’s new strategy, Sports Minister, Stephanie Peacock, said: “We all have a role to play in getting the nation moving, so I welcome this contribution from ukactive which provides a clear direction for the sector to create opportunities for children and young people to enjoy the benefits of physical activity.” To read The Next Generation strategy and to find out more about the kids polling, read the press release here: https://lnkd.in/efkfuyqR
