Following riots and violent disorder impacting high streets and town centres, we have created a hub to signpost businesses towards advice and guidance that may be helpful for those impacted. The hub includes advice on: - Compensation for victims of criminal damage or loss during a riot - Business activity having to stop as a result of riot activity - Collaborating with local authorities, business and police - Emotional and mental health support for hospitality staff “This will have been an extraordinarily distressing time for those affected and there is an abundance of resources available to help" says CEO Kate Nicholls OBE. Hospitality sector charities such as Hospitality Action and Licensed Trade Charity operate free helplines and advice for you and your staff. Dive into looking more at your water use in hospitality – those who have found a 51% average saving opportunity from little actions, which can cut #energy and carbon emissions too. Of 15 hospitality sites, including a restaurant and pubs, which had a water audit this year, through UKHospitality Supplier Member Water Plus UK, an average 51% water-saving was identified from adding small, low-cost water-saving devices on taps and flush saving technology. As there are carbon emissions linked to all water used for hospitality, improving water efficiency helps progress on the #foodanddrink Net Zero roadmaps too. Check out the host of actions – that don’t need to cost the earth – and can deliver for the bottom line at your business here: https://lnkd.in/eA9dkcwb #sustainability

As the Bank of England cuts interest rates by 0.25%, we've said that now is the time to press the accelerator on growth. "We need to see interest rates continue to fall, and for the Government to urgently implement its promised reforms to business rates," Allen Simpson, our Deputy Chief Executive, said. "Combined, this will see a meaningful and much-needed boost for hospitality businesses." https://lnkd.in/eR4WP9B8

Located in the old Scotsman building in Edinburgh, Brewhemia pour an average of 7,000 pints tank fresh beer per week plus keg beer! 🍻 They employ 132 members of staff, and have career progression plans and where possible have succession plans so that we promote from within. The German-inspired beer hall wants to continue serving Edinburgh with a good time, but are feeling the constraints of cost increases. Listen to Jack, Brewhemia's Business Analyst, talk about the impact of the cost of living crisis on the business. #ServingBritain

The Low Pay Commission (LPC) has been given a new remit, including factoring in the cost of living into wage rates for 2025. We have said that making significant changes for 2025, after evidence has already been given to the Commission, is "disruptive and unhelpful". The last two years saw wage rises of 20%, clearly accounting for the cost of living, and we have raised concerns about the affordability of another significant wage rise in 2025. Read more about the changes to the LPC's remit and our response: https://lnkd.in/e8JwbnXW

We have just over one week before we close the DATA AFTER DARK survey for night workers and night businesses. SURVEY CLOSES 9th AUGUST 2024 About the Survey: New research by UCL, supported by the MayorofLondon, is helping us learn more about what life is like for Londoners who work at night. This research will inform policy making and improve the lives of our vital night workers, including through transport planning, health service provision, economic fairness policy and the work of boroughs and employers. This will support areas such as night worker public transport service planning, or borough nighttime strategies. Planned output includes a map of London’s night workers, where MSOAs or even smaller areas are coloured according to a new ‘night worker classification’ that is being developed. We have over 450 responses but are keen to have more so please help us share with friends, family and your networks. We want to hear from workers and businesses in London who work any time between 6pm-6am. THANK YOU! Following the General Election, we now have 335 new MPs in Parliament. The best way for them to learn about the role of hospitality is by visiting hospitality venues in their constituencies. We have created a tool to make it easy for you to connect with and invite your local MP to visit your business over the summer and beyond. If you do secure a visit, we would be happy to assist members with a briefing or a member of the team to accompany you. Find the tool here: https://lnkd.in/d_eUh5hG
