CoMP-O-RAN Case Study 📣 In the latest in our FRANC case study series, we explore the CoMP-O-RAN project. The CoMP-O-RAN project represents an advancement in telecommunications, leveraging cutting-edge British design and technology to address the challenges of deploying dense networks of small cells. A key innovation of this project is the use of integrated, easily commissioned, millimeter-wave (mmWave) fronthaul, which significantly reduces the need for disruptive street excavation typically required to connect every small cell with fibre optics. BEACON-5G Case Study 📣 In the latest in our FRANC case study series, we explore the Beacon-5G project. BEACON-5G produced a cyber-resilient O-RAN compliant 5G system (5G O-RAN) aligned with Open RAN framework and principles, with reconfigurability, security, trustworthiness, and service architecture agility. This was successfully demonstrated in action at one of the busiest traffic junctions just off the M32 on the North Bristol Ring Road in South Gloucestershire, providing faster connectivity for a vehicle recognition and monitoring application to support the smart city initiative. The core system can be rapidly reconfigured and optimised for diverse industrial and consumer applications for use in both private local networks, and public carrier networks. 5G Innovation Region: North East Combined Authority - Project Update 🚀 The 5G Innovation Region (5GIR) programme has seen 10 regions throughout the UK receive a share of £36m of funding as part of our wider programme to drive 5G adoption. With a focus on key sectors where there is local capability and opportunities, the projects aim to enable the UK to take full advantage of the transformative effect that advanced wireless connectivity and digital technologies can provide. To help ensure that all regions can benefit from the work being done by the 5G Innovation Regions, UKTIN is inviting each of the projects to present to our Clusters forum. 🌐 Proteus: FRANC Case Study 🌐 In the latest in our FRANC case study series, we explore the Proteus project. FRANC was the first intervention DSIT announced from the Open Networks Programme in 2021. A total of 14 projects were funded to support the goals of the Government’s 5G Supply Chain Diversification Strategy by helping to incentivise the industry to create new products and services to unlock the full potential of Open RAN.
