Super excited to see this collaboration between trauma specialist Dignifi Ltd and Under One Sky take flight. Day 1 of production…behavioural change powerhouse Julia Pennington was shooting with filmmaker Franc Vissers. This woman has many lives on her hands…transformed lives. Our project is an idea that has lived as a mental picture of a couple of years…finally it will see the light of day and hopefully change many lives. One of those lovely moments during Under One Sky’s Soho Skywalk today. They met Caleb a young musician with long hair who was in need of new strings for his guitar. On the way back they went into Hanks Guitar Shop who said they’d give him new strings free of charge. Going the extra mile Skywalker Misty went back to H&M Oxford Circus where he is usually busking but he wasn’t there. If you happen to be walking/working around Oxford Circus and see Caleb (pic of his guitar below) then tell him he is sorted thanks to Hanks. What is left when the systems set up to support us fail? Us…the community, our fellow sisters and brothers. When Covid hit people who’d never imagined they’d would experience homelessness suddenly found themselves on the streets at the worst possible time. Had it not been for the community taking action these people would have been left with NOTHING and lives would have been lost. It has been a summer of division in the UK…our film I’M STILL HERE is an opportunity to end the Summer experiencing the immense power unleashed when the COMMUNITY gathers around a shared PURPOSE. For me this film is an example of what our society could look like. We face many challenges globally and locally but our power when we work together is immense. I hope you will turn up on Monday to our free screening of I’M STILL HERE to be moved and inspired to use all your gifts to make society a place of growth, compassion and belonging for all. Huge congratulations and respect to author André Rostant for his book The Muffin Man. He writes from his own experience of homelessness and his observations of society from selling The Big Issue in Soho (London). Big Issue seller by day with his book now placed with some of the world’s best selling authors at Waterstones in Holborn. Many dream of writing a novel but never do. This free event is part of the London Bridge City Summer by the River festival…no tickets needed, just turn up. London is a key character in the film - it will be powerful to see the film become one with our city. If you live or work in London you owe yourself to watch it. Feel free to share this far and wide with family/friends/colleagues. I’M STILL HERE is a story about social isolation, the value of community and the power of human connection. As the Covid19 lockdowns began a small group of volunteers from Under One Sky stepped out into the desolate city to serve and connect. In a matter of weeks hundreds of Londoners had joined the group. What they discovered was not only their own community, but one that was entwined with their new friends on the streets. Through their efforts we meet some of the many people who had been forgotten. We follow their experience, hear their stories and reveal powerful insights into homelessness and humanity. Celebration time…this week is the 1 year anniversary of the partnership between The The Thomas Franks Foundation and Under One Sky. The TFF team has joined us each month at Kings Cross providing 1000s of meals at a level that is top notch. These guys are showing the way things should be: those who have the least deserve the best. This is about much more than making bellies feel full…this is about human dignity and sense of self-worth. Working with this 100% purpose driven team is pure pleasure. Raj Singh, Dean Collins KSJ, Anna Davies and Frank Bothwell this partnership really rocks. Wow…what a night! It was intense, fiercely competitive and full of community. The Chess Tournament at the National Liberal Club to raise funds for Under One Sky was a huge success. The 26 generous players donated more than £1400 and the atmosphere was so friendly and so fun.
