People in Scotland are walking more often compared with more than a decade ago. Today, 23 August, marks the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition, a time to reflect on the injustices put upon enslaved people. The University of Edinburgh is committed to investigating our links to slavery, colonialism and the development of racial thought. Professor Sir Peter Mathieson, the University's Principal and Vice-Chancellor, says: “This day is a vivid reminder of why we need to remember the injustices of the past to help create a better future.
