About us

Cover Photo: UN Women/Mariam Alimi We are UN Women, the only global agency dedicated to gender equality. Created in 2010, UN Women is the UN organisation dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. A global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide. UN Women supports UN Member States as they set global standards for achieving gender equality, and works with governments and civil society to design laws, policies, programmes and services needed to ensure that the standards are effectively implemented and truly benefit women and girls worldwide. Gender inequality affects all women and girls in all countries across the world. UN Women UK is focussed on changing the way the world works for women from a UK perspective, setting the strategic direction for the UK, and delivering policies, programmes and campaigns, in the local UK context. We partner with our strong government, business and civil society network to reduce gender discrimination and improve the lives of women and girls across the country.

It’s World Humanitarian Day! Today and every day, we honour the brave humanitarians worldwide who sacrifice their lives to aid those in need. When we celebrate the gender equality activists helping women and girls in the UK at our annual UN Women UK Awards, we are also crucially raising funds for our Women’s Emergency Fund, that goes towards supporting humanitarian workers in crises zones across the world. Attacks are increasingly destroying the places where aid workers deliver services, such as hospitals, schools, playgrounds, and women’s centres, your contributions can help. You can donate to our Women's Equality Fund through the link below: https://lnkd.in/dbvrhisv #ActForHumanity #WHD2024

Thank goodness for UN Women Just had the best meeting with UN Women UK I’m not going to address what we discussed, as usual it was incredibly inciteful and positive and I’m so looking forward to the great work that we have lined up which I will continue to deliver around my roles within the judiciary and Chambers What I enjoyed most about today was the feeling of solidarity between women of different backgrounds and abilities and the opportunity to just come together, catch up with colleagues and support one another. We’re a beautiful diverse family and community who genuinely care about each other and come together and share our experiences to improve the world around us for women and girls…. Executive Coach | Former Financial Services Professional | Gender Equity & Philanthropy Advocate

Just had our monthly meeting with UN Women UK and I feel privileged to be part of such a beautiful, supportive and diverse family. The work of this community is paramount to advancing women’s and girl’s rights globally, and I look forward to getting involved in all the impactful projects coming up. Having witnessed in shock the violence and racism across the UK, I stand in solidarity with all of those being targeted by these horrific attacks. These injustices should have no place in our society and I will continue to promote and support the work of those fighting for human rights. This violence must stop now.

Statement from UN Women UK: We are horrified by the violence we have seen across the UK as a result of the spread of disinformation and misinformation fueled by racism and prejudice. Communities across the UK have faced targeted, violent attacks because of their race, ethnicity, religion and immigration status. This must stop. No woman or girl should ever be killed or face violence. We must urgently address gendered violence peacefully so all women and girls live in freedom and safety.
