Resourcing the world.

About us

Veolia UK provides solutions for ecological transformation. We are a company of almost 14,000 employees, although we prefer to think of ourselves as “resourcers”. Every day across the country our “resourcers” design and deploy useful and concrete solutions, which help our customers fight against climate change, prevent pollution of our water and create a circular economy where nothing goes to waste. Every year, we serve around 1.8 million people through our municipal wastewater contracts. We complete over 400 million waste collections across our Local Authority contracts, serving over 3 million residential properties; and we treat over 1.5 million tonnes of commercial and industrial waste from our 85,000 private customers. We also produce over 560 MWe of renewable and low carbon electricity, to power over 1.3 million homes. Veolia UK is an exciting and innovative place to work, but don't just take our word for it - we were named as one of the top 10 'Very Big Organisations' to work for in The Sunday Times' Best Places to Work 2024. We're resourcing the world through our purpose of ecological transformation, and we're doing this by working together to constantly progress. We are reinventing the way things work to reduce our environmental impact and increase efficiency, whether in the reuse of wastewater or the recovery of waste, such as plastics. At the same time, we anticipate the needs of tomorrow with innovative solutions that will decarbonise our energy and heating demands. We do this through the development of microgrids and energy management through our Hubgrade solution, which optimises the management of resources using digital and artificial intelligence. We are driven by optimism and passion, not to see the world as it is, but how it should be; and we are tenacious in our efforts to achieve our goals. These aren't just empty words.

We’re so excited to share that our work with Dulux Decorator Centre is set to reach a new milestone – we’re on track to recycle a total of one and a half million empty paint cans by the end of the year! Since 2022, Veolia has worked alongside over 140 Dulux Decorator Centres across the UK to recycle empty paint cans. By recycling these cans, we’re reducing waste to landfill and reintroducing precious plastic and metal materials back to the market, all while saving carbon emissions in the process. Thanks to Dulux’s commitment to its sustainability goals and Veolia’s innovative solutions, we’re taking a step forward in greening the decorating industry. You can find out more about how we’re driving ecological transformation with this initiative by listening back to our ‘In conversation with Dulux Decorator Centre’ podcast episode: https://ow.ly/XYZ150Tau74 #RegeneratingResources #EcologicalTransformation

Along with Dennis Eagle UK and Autotech Training, we're proud to have won in the partnership category at the Motor Industry Awards 🎉 This award recognises our shared commitment to powering vehicles into the future, through electric and hybrid vehicle system repair and replacement. In order to make sure our in-house capability is fit for the future of our fleet, a strategic partnership was formed to create an industry-first training programme. This means we have enhanced our training provision for workshop technicians, enabling us to attract, develop and retain a highly skilled workforce to repair and maintain our fleet of electric vehicles. We're really pleased to see this collaborative venture recognised by the Motor Industry Awards, which is the benchmark for excellence amongst UK fleet operators. #MTAwards2024

Innovation is one of our Veolia Values for a reason - it helps make sure we are constantly pushing forward and finding better ways of doing things. Chris, one of our Supervisors in the Municipal team, showed how an innovative approach can make a real difference in the lives of the communities we serve. An underpass in Chris' area of Solihull was a known graffiti hotspot, with weekly reports of offensive graffiti on the walls. Rather than continuing to paint over this and enabling the issue to persist, Chris instead worked with our partner Solihull Council, as well as the Royal British Legion and a local school, to design a mural to fill the walls of the underpass. This was really well-received in the area and has helped to stop the ongoing graffiti issue, making the area more pleasant for residents. It's innovative thinking like this that helps us go above and beyond for our partners, customers and communities - well done Chris 👏 Keep an eye on our page to see more examples of our people living the Veolia Values! #EverydayGreatness #Values #OurPeople #EcologicalTransformation

Did you catch us at the Four Oaks Trade Show? We had a great time showcasing our sustainable Pro-Grow and RockDust products at this leading industry exhibition 🌼 Our Pro-Grow range of gardening products contain high quality compost made from the green waste that we collect. The compost contains plenty of nutrients and organic matter, and improves the structure and water-holding capacity of the soil, helping horticultural businesses and green-fingered gardeners alike to grow healthy plants and flowers. RockDust makes the ideal companion for Pro-Grow compost, as its nutrient-rich properties help to keep soil and compost healthy and support successful growing. A by-product from basalt quarries, RockDust is an innovative, organically approved product that's helping to regenerate resources. The resources and waste industry is more often associated with bins than butterflies, but they have more in common than you might think 🦋 Our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Alton down in Hampshire not only sorts 60,000 tonnes of recyclable materials every year, but it also recycles its own wastewater for reuse - supporting an area of wildflowers to boost the site's biodiversity. Come with us on a tour outside the MRF to see how we’re delivering ecological transformation, one recycled bottle and new wildflower at a time, and find out more at https://ow.ly/XJso50TcXe4. #EcologicalTransformation #Biodiversity #WasteWater #Recycling

The unsafe disposal of electrical items causes a preventable fire every day across our vehicles and facilities, showing the serious impact of improper waste disposal. Items such as batteries and vapes can be dangerous when disposed of in general waste, as they are extremely flammable when crushed. This has led to an average of one preventable fire every day across our network, endangering our people and causing damage to vital recycling infrastructure. August has been another busy month for our teams, as they've found opportunities to contribute to their local communities beyond the day-to-day operations. 🚮 In London, some of our commercial colleagues carried out a litter-pick along the river Thames, cleaning up the area and helping to protect biodiversity. ☀️ Over in Northampton, we worked with local partners to put on a fun day for the community, which included activities to help residents learn more about recycling. There were over 30 stallholders and a record number of resident participants throughout the day. 🧸 It was time for a teddy bears picnic in Merseyside, as children had the opportunity to adopt soft toys destined for disposal at our Gillmoss facility, as well as learning how to have picnics sustainably. #SocialValue #Community #Litterpick #Recycling
