International not-for-profit working to end the water, sanitation and hygiene crisis - for good.

About us

WaterAid is an international not-for-profit, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation. Since we started in 1981, we’ve remained resolutely focused on tackling these three essentials that transform people’s lives. Without all three, people can’t live dignified, healthy lives. With all three, they can break free from poverty, unleash their potential and change their lives for good. Children grow up healthy and strong, women and men start small businesses, whole communities start to thrive. It sounds normal and it should be. By inspiring people and sparking chain reactions we help deliver lasting change. By working closely with partners internationally and on the ground in some of the toughest places in the world, we have helped millions of people take control of their lives and build better futures. Now we are working to get safe water, decent toilets and good hygiene to everyone, everywhere by 2030. It’s about more than installing taps, toilets, boreholes and wells. To make lasting change happen on a massive scale, we pool knowledge and resources, link policy makers with people on the ground, change attitudes and behaviours, rally support from people and organisations around the world and convince governments to change laws. Together, we will change millions of lives for the better – and change normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation. We strive to be an excellent employer and invest in our people to maximise our impact. We provide a competitive benefits package and a tailored learning and development plan for all employees.

Have you added your vote for water? 💦 When it comes to the UK's international development spending, clean water needs to be the priority. As people around the world gain access to water, healthcare improves, children spend more time in education, and gender barriers start to break down. Water really does mean life. Show The Labour Party that this is an issue you care about by adding your vote for water now: https://brnw.ch/21wM8ln #VoteWater

Hygiene is so much more than just washing your hands 👏 It covers so many behaviours, from personal hygiene to food preparation. Maintaining good hygiene is one of the most effective ways for people to keep themselves and their loved ones safe from infection. But almost 2 billion people lack the soap and/or water they need to wash their hands at home, meaning lives are put at risk every day – simply because people don't have access to the very basics.

Discussions around climate change are heating up 🔥 They're even entering the medical field. Doctors are being urged to talk to their patients about how climate change can affect their health. But is this the right move? Climate change affects people's health in many ways, from exacerbating chronic illnesses to increasing the spread of infectious diseases. By talking about these threats, doctors can provide practical advice, like how to stay safe during extreme weather events. What do you think? Should doctors incorporate discussions about climate change into their patient care? How would you feel if your doctor brought up this topic during a visit? #ClimateChange #Healthcare #PublicHealth

Meet Julie! Julie joined us around a year and a half ago as our Advocacy Officer for all our climate and health campaigns. What’s been your proudest WaterAid moment?   “Attending the UN Water Conference and collaborating with young people to conduct some of our advocacy activities at Africa Climate Week and COP28 – organising events or creating content for our social channels. Feeling like my role plays even a small part within the wider change WaterAid is seeking, in collaboration with others, makes me proud.”   What keeps you committed to the mission at work?   “The wins across the federation! Change does not happen overnight. It’s a process. Every win, big or small, across the federation, gets us closer to achieving our goal to give access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene to everyone everywhere.”   What’s one valuable insight into the work you do that you’d like to share?   “Lately, politics and global developments have been challenging to say the least. It’s not always easy to navigate, to make sure our campaigns are relevant in all the contexts we work in, and not everything always goes to plan. But it’s exciting to think of alternative or imaginative ways to reach our ambition and to learn from colleagues around the world.”   And what’s your favourite song?   “Waterloo Sunset by The Kinks” 🎵 Keep an eye on our job openings for your chance to join our team and make a real impact 💧

Does your company offer a pension and health insurance? Benefits like these are a normal part of many of our working lives, but often isn't the case for sanitation workers around the world. 👇 Explore the Shasthya Nirapotta Scheme, which offers sanitation workers and their families in Bangladesh life insurance and healthcare at an affordable cost.
