The Clun Carnival and Show wowed crowds earlier this month, with a little help from the Connexus Community Development Fund. The annual show, held in the Shropshire market town, attracts scores of visitors each year from the local community and beyond.  £1400 in funding, provided by our Community Development Fund, enabled the Carnival and Show’s committee to purchase a marquee to host musicians and dancers.  It will also be used to serve refreshments at future events. Thank you to The Foyer Federation for an exceptional training day focused on restorative practice. Ella's infectious energy during the training session was truly inspiring, motivating us to enhance our existing approach in order to better support our young people who may have in the past experienced punitive consequences. Restorative practice empowers young individuals to take responsibility for their actions, reflect on what went wrong and why, consider their emotions and the impact on others, and most importantly, learn how to make amends and extract valuable lessons for their future. Apprenticeships are one of the ways we are supporting our local communities to boost skills, opportunities and jobs, and is a key commitment in our #RuralAmbition campaign. Our recent recruitment for apprentices resulted in 375 individual applications, including 40 customers. Earlier this week our team started first stage interviews for our plumbing and heating apprenticeships, and it was a fantastic opportunity to meet some potential future Connexus colleagues. The initial interview is designed to assess candidates' motivation and enthusiasm for the trades as well as their technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities. The Rural Homelessness Counts Coalition is marking its one-year anniversary during #RuralHousingWeek. The coalition is a collaborative initiative with many member organisations, all dedicated to addressing the hidden crisis of rural homelessness in England. Its mission is to raise awareness, develop solutions, and foster partnerships to ensure that everyone, regardless of their location, has access to safe and affordable housing. Research shows that building just 10 affordable homes in a rural area generates £1.4m for the economy and supports an average of 26 jobs, so this #RuralHousingWeek we’re supporting the National Housing Federation #PlanForHousing, which calls on the next government to support a long-term plan to end the housing crisis for good.
