🌟 EMPLOYER AND CANCER SURVEY EXTENSION 🌟 PLEASE TAKE PART AND HELP US TO HELP OTHERS. The early election has pushed back our plans to launch our survey report in Westminster in July. So we now have time to widen the net for more responses. Do join us and share your thoughts, and a big thank you to all those who have already completed it. All the brilliant reasons for taking part are below 👇 👉 The number of under-50s worldwide being diagnosed with cancer has risen by nearly 80% in 30 years but research has shown that 50% of employees are afraid to tell their employers. 👉 ‘With more than 178,000 people diagnosed this year in the UK alone, responsible leadership demands more than just compliance with regulations: it requires empathy, flexibility, and proactive measures’; [Business Leader Magazine; Patricia Cullen, December/January 2024] 👉 Working With Cancer (WWC) is partnering with the Institute for Employment Studies (IES) to conduct a groundbreaking survey aimed at informing employers about how best to support employees who are working with cancer and transitioning back into the workplace after active treatment. 👉 We’re casting a wide net, inviting responsible employers from every corner of the UK, regardless of size, to share their insights, including those that have signed the Working with Cancer Pledge (link to website). The survey specifically targets UK-based professionals with senior HR responsibilities or managerial staff in small enterprises who might also perform HR tasks. 👉 By taking part in this survey anonymously you’ll help many others. The study will illuminate continuing gaps in service provision, and so enable employers to develop services which will make a significant difference to the wellbeing of their employees affected by cancer. We truly appreciate you taking part in the study. You can access the survey link here 👇 here https://lnkd.in/gtKqq3et #workingwithcancer #employersurvey #cancersurvey #employmentsurvey

Almost 30,000 people need specialist end of life care in a hospice setting each year (5% of all deaths). But a far larger number receive palliative care from hospices in the community through partnerships with the NHS and this also includes supporting the relatives of end of life patients. Sadly, hospices are now facing the worst funding crisis in 20 years so isn’t it only right that they are included in Lord Darzi’s review of the NHS? This is a key question asked in today's editorial in The Guardian, you can access the full article via the link below. Let us know your thoughts and whether you've had any experience with hospice care whether it be for you, a friend or a family member. https://lnkd.in/eaS9GYHY #workingwithcancer #hospice #endoflifecare #nhsfunding

📢 If you’re an HR professional we need your help! Or perhaps you’re responsible for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and familiar with supporting employees with cancer in some way, we’d be very grateful for your support in bringing our Employer and Cancer Survey to your HR department's attention. 👀 The ‘Bevan Employer and Cancer Survey’ is a key survey to help shape better support for employees working with cancer and transitioning back to work after active treatment. We need input from HR teams to help us highlight gaps in service provision and enable employers to create services that can make a positive difference to the wellbeing of their employees affected by cancer. We know you have busy roles but your input is crucial. We’ve had a few instances of people starting but not completing the survey so please be assured if you’re concerned about compromising your organisation in any way that the survey is ANONYMOUS and only takes 10 minutes of your time. If you don’t work in HR you can still help in some way by sharing this with your HR department. You can access the survey here 👇 https://lnkd.in/evjmNgUy #workingwithcancer #employersurvey #HR #Occupationalhealth #DEIprofessional

Yesterday, our founder Barbara Wilson was delighted to be one of the panel speakers at TTG Media’s Fairer Travel Diversity Forum in London. This is an important travel industry conference that focuses on placing diversity, equity and inclusion at the heart of businesses to improve company culture and profit as a result.  Barbara joined the panel alongside Fay Field from easyJet, Jae Hopkins from Explore Worldwide and April Hutchinson from Ttgluxury to discuss the challenges of working with cancer and tackling the taboos. It was a very positive day packed with important conversations about working with cancer and how to better support employees who have been impacted in some way. It's great to see the travel sector including key discussions like this around the topic of tackling the taboos of cancer and demonstrating a commitment to making improvements for their people. #TTGfairnessTrave #WorkingwithCancer #CompanyCulture

It’s a common misconception that cancer affects the older generations. Since 1995, cancer diagnosis rates among the under-50s have increased by 24%. This means more younger employees are returning to work after a diagnosis or during treatment than ever before which is creating a number of challenges in the workplace. Founder of Working With Cancer, Barbara Wilson spoke with Workplace Insight to share some helpful recommendations for best practices for employers to better support employees impacted by cancer. The charity Prostate Cancer UK says that “Outdated” guidance on prostate cancer could be putting men’s lives at risk. Currently, men at high risk of the disease can be tested but only if they request it. According to the charity, GPs are told not to raise the issue with men unless they have symptoms but most men with early prostate cancer, when it is easiest to treat, don't have signs or symptoms. Prostate Cancer UK is campaigning for the government to update health guidelines to allow healthcare professionals to take a more proactive approach to men at the highest risk.
