The founding principle of the World Energy Council has always been to convene leadership conversations across the entire energy ecosystem. Rather than limit dialogue to traditional energy sectors, the Council has operated on the principle that far-reaching and impactful energy solutions necessitate equally far-reaching collaborations across the entire energy spectrum. It was this vision - a holistic, interconnected and truly international organisation that stood beyond national and regional politics – that inspired DN Dunlop to go beyond creating a purely technical institution in 1923. As he later told a friend: “I always had in mind the idea of enlarging this body of engineers to a body of experts of all branches of industry and agriculture.” The emphasis on convening truly global expertise continues to empower the Council’s mission and vision. A century after Dunlop planted his initial seed, the Council has blossomed into a vibrant community of more than 3000 energy leaders with a presence across 100+ nations. Together, we continue to work towards advancing clean and inclusive energy transitions for all by convening diverse and visionary leaders from every walk of life. For how can we look towards redesigning a new and truly global energy system for all if we do not listen and learn from each other? About us
The World Energy Council is the world's oldest independent and impartial community of energy leaders and practitioners. Through our Humanising Energy vision, we involve more people and communities in accelerating clean and just energy transitions in all world regions. Formed in 1923, the Council has convened diverse interests from across the full energy ecosystem for a century, and today has over 3,000 member organisations and a presence in nearly 100 countries. Our global network draws from governments, private and state corporations, academia and civil society, as well as current and future energy leaders. We effectively collaborate on impact programmes and inform local, regional and global energy agendas in support of our enduring mission: to promote the sustainable use and supply of energy for the benefit of all people. The Council convenes leadership dialogues including the World Energy Congress to enable new collaborations and drive impact; and provides a range of practical tools including the World Energy Trilemma Framework to define, support and better manage energy transitions.

🌍 Urgent action is required to redesign the world's energy systems and advance clean and inclusive energy transitions. But what does progress look like in a radically changing energy landscape? How do we ensure we stay on track and are able to navigate the multiple energy transitions pathways emerging globally? The World Energy Trilemma Framework was developed by our community nearly 20 years ago to do just this by tracking country performance against three critical dimensions: energy security, affordability and sustainability. The Trilemma is evolving now to best reflect contemporary energy systems and the challenges we all face. This shift is at the heart of our 2024 World Energy Trilemma Report, which will shape the conversation around facilitating energy transitions up to the 27th World Energy Congress in Riyadh, 26-29 October 2026. 👉 Read the 2024 World Energy Trilemma Report here: https://lnkd.in/en8SGYWS #WorldEnergyTrilemma #energytransition #cleanenergy #energysystems #renewables

📸 Photo from the 3rd World Power Conference, Detroit, 1936 🌍✨ Almost 90 years ago, the 3rd World Power Conference marked a key moment as the world pivoted away from coal towards electricity. It was a time of rapid energy transition and societal transformation, when electricity was revolutionising households and liberating women from the daily toil. In 1936, the spark of change was ignited. At the conference's heart was Caroline Haslett, the driving force behind the Woman's Electrical Association. As the only woman in the British delegation, she carried the torch for women's involvement in the energy dialogue. Following this historic event, a committee under the Women’s Engineering Society (W.E.S.) was established to represent women's interests in energy. This pivotal moment led to the establishment of the Electrical Association for Women, bridging the gap between energy and the potential female consumer. Electricity wasn't just illuminating homes; it was lighting the way for women's empowerment. And the impact of this energy transition could not just be seen as a technological transformation, but a societal shift towards equality. Fast forward to over 80 years later, and the World Energy Council continues to champion the role of women in energy. Today, we proudly stand under the leadership of our first female Secretary-General in our century-long history. Our member committees are establishing pioneering programs to create professional networks of women working in energy sectors, with World Energy Council - WEC Chile leading the way. As we honour our legacy, we continue to illuminate the path for women in energy, recognising their vital contributions in a dynamic industry. We embrace the past, present, and future - empowering women to shape a sustainable energy landscape. Together, let's power a future where women's empowerment remains at the heart of global energy transitions and societal transformations. 💡👩🔬💪✨ #womeninenergy #energytransitions #humanisingenergy #sustainability #energysystems
