Lovely to host a table of fellow members of the Worshipful Company of Insurers at last night's Carlton Club annual liveries dinner. Melanie Hampton was our speaker - a WCI member (insurance broker) and Master of the Worshipful Company of Paviors (only the 2nd lady master in 748 years). She spoke about antiquity and modernity and how the movement has adapted to the modern world but held true on its core values of trade, apprenticeship, opportunity and philanthropy. That soft power should not be underestimated and we give a whopping £73m a year to charitable causes. A very lively Q&A session was then had with the prevailing theme that the livery movement is there for everyone - young and old alike and how we must reach out beyond the confines of the city to ensure we help as many as we can. The 10th anniversary of the Dive in Festival promises to be the biggest yet. It all started in the London insurance market and is now a global celebration of diversity. We are moving forward with our rebranding project, the main aim of which is to bring consistency to the visual identity of the active sections within the Company. We started with WCI iWIN and are now ready to unveil the new look for our very successful section for Non-Executive directors WCI iNED Forums. Look out for the new look for WCI iENGAGE – our young professionals section – in the next few weeks.

Later today the Worshipful Company of Insurers will delete its account on X (Twitter). We no longer believe it is a platform where we can constructively engage with the people and organisations relevant to us. We also wish to disassociate ourselves from the ever-increasing volume of hateful content on the platform. We will continue to maintain an active social media presence on LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube.

The next INED Forum will be an in-person event on Tuesday 10 September. "Harnessing the Power of Data and AI - what Boards Need to Know Now"   There are increased expectations of Boards to enhance their knowledge and oversight of AI and Advanced Data Analytics. Shareholders require value creation opportunities to be captured whilst regulators need assurance that there are appropriate controls in place to mitigate risk. There is a fundamental link to data in achieving these goals which goes beyond the remit of the Technology function and Boards need to recognise the cultural disciplines to be championed, the risks to be addressed and the investments required for this journey.   Insurers need to demonstrate control and implement AI safely and traceably to provide clarity and auditability of how AI has contributed to customer outcomes. There is a growing divide measured in revenue growth, underwriting performance, expense efficiency and customer satisfaction between those who are embracing technology and implementing it well, and those who are failing to do so. For these reasons, Data and AI need to be part of every Board's agenda.   Speakers from Forvis Mazars and industry practitioners (further speakers to be confirmed) will address these issues in the Forum.
